Women Equal Pay Essay
"A woman deserves equal pay for equal work...Its time to do away with work place policies that belong in a Mad Men episode." -President Obama.

The Equal Pay Act is a big topic in today's society. The Equal Pay Act would ensure equal pay regardless of your gender. Woman get paid less than men (averaging 78 cents on the dollar) and people are fighting to fix it. I believe they have a pretty good reason to fight. Equal pay should be a right, not a opportunity. Women deserve equal pay for equal work, and they are working for it. Women have earned a lot of rights over the years and are not about to stop now.

To make things clear, I'm not about to say that women have no rights, because that is simply not true. Women have gained more rights

Why? Because unfair pay is a thing, and it hurts woman and their families everywhere. Some people say that women should just depend on a man for money, but there are two things wrong with that. First of all, this isn't the 1800s anymore. We are our own people. We shouldn’t have to depend on other people. Second of all, think of those single moms who work as much as they can to support themselves

and their children. Think of those families who have a father in war. They cant depend on a man to get their money figured out.

Women need equal pay, because as men loose high income jobs, families are becoming more dependent on women salaries. When men loose high paying jobs, the women is expected to be able to support a family finically. But when women don’t get paid well, they often times cant do this. All because of low pay for women, families are starving. Studies show that families with more money have children who do better in school. You could have children to doing well in school all because of unfair pay.

And finally, women need equal pay, because it may loose you employs. Think about the effect unfair pay has women's decisions. If you knew you weren't getting paid as much as you could, would you really want to come back to work? Probably not. Therefor you may

These are my own thoughts on this contentious topic: a woman should not get as much pay anyway. I mean, why do they deserve this? I have seen women make great mothers, wives and housekeepers without having to step a foot outside of their houses. I have seen smart, intelligent women do what they are told by their husbands what to do and they do so without an argument. Nowadays it all seems to boil down to being superior to the male however this must come to a stop. The more women’s rights there are, the fewer men’s rights there will…

Gender pay gaps persist not only in the United States but also around the world. The gender pay inequality is the reason why female in America makes 78 cents per 1 dollar of males’ salary. The gender is still the factor when it comes of determining a salary for an employee. Woman always placed with wage discrepancies and difference compared to what men earn. “In the United States, as with many other industrial nations, women are increasingly participating in the labor workforce by either working or seeking employment.” (Schaefer, R. T. (2012). After all these years women are still struggling with equality, but with these organizations and the help of laws being passed women now have a chance. Women have been known for the slave to the working man therefore needing no existence in the work place. Introducing gender equality in the workplace will make for a better economy. When women became equal to man in the workplace there was better communication between management and coworkers, increased productivity, and reduction in salary gaps. Women are advancing quickly showing America that they can accomplish just as much and if not better accomplishments. “Many individual women hold positions involving high levels of responsibility and competence but may not be accorded the same respect as man.” (Schaefer, R. T.…

Men got paid more than a women did even if they had the same job title or assignment. But in 1963 the equal women's pay act was enabled and passed. If a woman is paid less than a man doing the same job it was called sex discrimination, which is illegal. Although this act was passed so long ago women are still being underpaid in the 2000’s. It wasn’t until the National Organization of Women was founded that women were not getting discriminated in the workplace. This didn’t change the fact that they did not get paid equally to men. To this day woman still get paid 80% of what men are paid. Even though the pay gap has narrowed since the 1960’s at the rate it has been going, women will not get paid equally to men until 2059. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 established the requirements that women should receive equal pay for their amount of work. The history of this act was to end gender-based discrimination in labor wages. Throughout history women have been paid less than men even when employed in the same jobs. It was accepted in the U.S that men deserved to earn more money than women, even if their work was exactly the same. The mindset was that men were the heads of the households and they are the primary income producer in their families.…

    The Wage Gap Analysis

Two landmark court cases served to strengthen and further define the Equal Pay Act: Schultz v. Wheaton Glass Co. (1970), U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit; Ruled that jobs need to be “substantially equal” nut not “identical” to fall under the protection of the Equal Pay Act. An employer cannot, for example, change the job titles of women workers in order to pay them less than men.; Corning Glass Works v. Brennan (1974) U.S. Supreme Court; Ruled that employers cannot justify paying women lower wages, because that is what they traditionally received under the “going market rate.” A wage differential occurring “simply because men would not work at the low rates paid women” was unacceptable. (“The Equal Pay Act”) While these things have caused the gap to narrow there is still s noticeable difference in the pay of…

First, the pay that women receive is still unequal to that of their male counterparts. On average, white women are paid 78 cents to the white man’s dollar, and it is worse for women of color; for instance, to the white man’s dollar, black women are only paid 64 cents, Hispanic women are paid 54 cents, and Native American women are paid 59 cents. This is ridiculous, without a doubt. Gender and race should not have anything to do with it. Furthermore, besides the wage gap, many women in work are needlessly sexualized. In an article by Beth Elise Schneider from the University of Massachusetts, she explains the results of a study done on sexuality in the workplace. The issues that women have experienced, according to this study, include sexual harassment and objectification. In some cases, women are even let go because men find their bodies “distracting’, when they should not be staring at women in a professional environment at all. This directly connects to my third point: men do not take women seriously in the labor force. Many men see women as less than human or view them as not capable of performing “a man’s job”. I find these stereotypes incredibly demeaning to a woman’s…

Throughout the years men have been superior to women in labor and in gender. It’s no surprise that even to this day men are still at a higher level than women. It is a fact that women are paid less than men by a vast amount. During the American Revolution women were mostly at home serving as house maids while men did work labor and brought home the money. In the year 1970, white men were paid 100 percent of their earnings while white women got paid 58.7 percent, there is no denying the difference in the wage gap between genders. In addition, the wage gap didn't affect gender only it affected race and ethnicity. In that same year 1970, black men got paid 69.0 percent of their earnings while black women got paid 48.2 percent, it was always men…

    Equal Pay For Women

    • 1407 Words

Women work just as hard as men during their working hours. Women who worked hard for their education and job are treated unfairly with their wage. Almost all jobs for women pay less than what a man earns doing the same job. For instance, “In researching this issue at the Center for Gender Studies, we found only four occupational categories for which comparison data were available in which women earned even a little more than men: special education teachers, order clerks, electrical and electronic engineers and food preparation occupations (Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics)” (Lips 309-310). Many occupations for women do not offer equal or more pay than men receive. The opportunity for women to earn even a little more than men in equal positions is limited to four categories of occupations. Not all women want to fit themselves into those careers. More occupations should be available for women at equal pay of men. Women do not deserve to be paid less than men in equal positions. This is causing women to be upset because they believe even though they have the education, experience and deserve to succeed in the workplace, they face the challenge to receive the same wage as men do. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 was a positive step forward for women in the workplace, but no major changes to benefit working women have been implemented since then. Another example states "It's been 51 years since the Equal Pay Act was passed, and women still aren't getting equal pay for equal work," says Lisa Maatz, vice president of government relations at the American Association of University Women. "The whole point of the Paycheck Fairness Act would have been to tighten up the gender pay gap"(Little). Equal pay has been a problem in the United States for a long time. Over the years, many have rallied to make it better for women in the workforce, but the…

    Wage Gap In America

    • 991 Words

Throughout history, females have oftentimes not been treated fairly compared to their male counterparts. The gender wage gap has been a real and prevalent issue in our society for decades. Even in the present, women are inclined to get lower salaries than men throughout the world, and most importantly in the United States where the constitution nonetheless says “all men are created equal.” However, there is much we can do to stop discrimination in the work force. The United States’ wage gap is caused by discrimination against women who have less opportunities for higher paying jobs, and in order to eradicate this issue in our country and worldwide, women need to be treated impartially in the workforce.…
