Wonder World By Tami Bone

On Thursday, March 24th, I visited The Wittliff Collections at Texas State University located in the Alkek Library. There were many photos, paintings, and drawings from many different cultures and time periods. From western to cultural to modern only one photo stood out to me. It was “Wonder World” by Tami Bone from 2015. This photo is not just a normal everyday black and white photo it has layers after layers almost like its telling a story. It draws the viewer in by the mysterious almost creepy background. This picture had a sweet innocent lamb in the dark mysterious wilderness. The lamb was bright white while the background was dark and foggy. As if, it was telling a story about a small child born into a dark world. The background was dark and blurred until you it gets to the lines of the lamb. The background was almost completely black to really draw the viewer’s eyes to the lamb. Also the background looked as if the camera was turned when the picture was taken. The picture looks as if it was distorted but only the trees and sky not the lamb. The lambs face and body is soft like you can see the innocents in its eyes. Some people might see it as she needs to add something to it but, I feel as if the photo is so simple that if you added anything it wouldn’t look near as good. The simplicity really shines thorough in this artist’s work. Tami bone created “Wonder World “ in 2005 when she was 48 years old. Her photography is all about finding belonging within the earth. Its about reaching a deeper level and making storied with a sense of wonder.
