Work Ethic Personal Statement
As a student of Haskayne School of Business, I want to be a capable and prepared leader. Specifically, I will have developed networking skills to allow me to be successful in life after post-secondary school. I have a good work ethic. I have shown this characteristic with my ability to balance work from two different undergraduate programs, involve myself in clubs such as Prism Advertising, and attend Haskayne events such as peer mentoring. This will help be to find time to pursue non-academic goals, even when my course load is intense. I also excel at memorizing concepts. This has already helped me in SGMA 217, which emphasizes definitions of terms, and anatomy, which requires extensive memorization. Throughout my years in university, this skill will allow me to foster relationships and take a …show more content…
While I finish projects on time, I wait too long to start them. This threatens long term goals and growth, as they must be achieved through constant progress over time. Another weakness I must improve upon is multitasking. I often become too focused with whichever task seems important or urgent, and lose focus of other responsibilities. This can cause long term goals to be eclipsed be seemingly important immediate tasks. For example, networking may be overlooked in favour of completing assignments. I also must specifically work on my social skills. I tend towards being an introvert and therefore must work harder to make social connections. This means I must be willing to go beyond my comfort zone and become a more vocal leader. I also suffer from crippling depression. Finding relatable memes always cheers me up, so it’s not a big deal. Another issue I have is dealing with ambiguity. If I do not understand something, it tends to cause me stress or avoidance. I will need minimize this to improve on other weaknesses, such as procrastination. Lastly, I tend to be a follower. Often, I will imitate others rather than set my own

One of my huge weaknesses is low self-esteem and confidence (Bethel University, 2014). Having this as a poor skill in life makes a lot of the other skills hard to conquer. I think if I had a higher confidence level then maybe I wouldn’t struggle so much with public speaking, management of people and seeking support from others. I don’t give myself enough credit and I am hard on myself. Another weakness that I struggle with is the ability to focus on one thing at a time. I have struggled with this quality as far back as I can remember. My mind is always racing and trying to complete more than more thing at a time.…

What does it mean to be a leader today? Do you think that only certain women are destined for a leadership role? There are three core qualities to leadership: authenticity, self-expression, value creation. “Authenticity” refers to a link between the inner and the outer person. Truly authentic leaders are open to both their gifts and their underdeveloped qualities. People who understand who they are then to have a more powerful voice—and to make a more profound contribution to an enterprise. (LaBarre, 2004) I believe that Erin Brockovich has these three qualities of leadership and is a women we should look up to as her story was turned into an inspirational motion picture that illustrates that even an ordinary human being can succeed in life if they have enough drive and willpower. With her back against the wall, her only option was to push forward and fight for her family 's survival. It was her curiosity that led to the tipping point in her life, but most importantly, her determination, hard work ethic, and perseverance allowed her to prove to people in her life that she was capable of making a difference in today’s society.…

Some of the characteristics I need to improve on include being overly ambitious, procrastination, being too demanding of teammates, being unable to articulate my vision to others and lack of confidence. These weaknesses are important because they take part in defining who I am and how I am viewed. For example, I do no want to be the team member that is difficult to work with, that is not how I want the business community to view me. These weaknesses hinder my ability to achieve my vision due to the fact that they all impact my character negatively. I will not be given the opportunity to take part in extracurricular group projects (which are essential in developing my fundamental leadership qualities) if I am lacking confidence or lacking the ability to articulate my vision. Procrastination and being overly ambitious will also hinder my vision of gaining a positive…

To combat my weaknesses, I need to begin focusing more on myself and less on work related issues, especially after hours. Walk away from people or circumstances that would aggravate my impulsive behavior. Often these situations will still be waiting after I have had time to think and calmed down. Take a deep breath and discuss the problem with a friend before yelling at someone out of anger. I need to practice calming strategies, such as muscle relaxation, yoga, and cardiovascular exercise. When confronted with a difficult decision I need to begin by writing a list of pros and cons before proceeding. When confronting someone I need to make a mental outline of what I want to say before saying…

I strive to be able to give a solid foundation and an easy path to life whether it be school, finding who they want to be as they grow older and for a productive future. As a nurse, I strive for equality of care for every patient and to be able to be their voice when they are not able to speak for themselves. As a member of the community, I strive to lend a hand for the needy and helpless. I speak for and ask help for them i.e. my neighbor, who leaves alone and has no family to be by her side.…

Also, I am a quick learner, have a strong work ethic, and I work well with others. Another strength I have is that I follow notes precisely and take detailed notes. One of my weaknesses is that I can be too sensitive sometimes, by letting the little things get to me. Also, there are times where I can talk too quickly or too quietly. Sometimes I can be very self-critical of myself, if I mess up I tend to be very hard on myself for it. But from these weaknesses I am looking for ways to learn and grow from them. Besides medicine, I also enjoy traveling, cooking and music. I have been part of my school choirs since seventh grade. Furthermore, I belong to a region in India that was colonized by the Portuguese and thus, I am Roman Catholic by religion and Indian by ethnicity. Personal Ethics Statement

When I start it attending this class I did not have a clue what personal ethics meant, but now after the nine weeks of me attending this class I have learned a lot of new things like the meaning of personal ethics. Now I know that personal ethics is the way in which you do and look at things, in other words it is what you live by and who you are as person and what kind of person you want or would be like. I consider myself a very responsible person for the age of 19. I think I became responsible a little faster than others my age because I started working since I was only 14 years old. I think that when people get their first job they change a little and start becoming more responsible. I consider myself a very strong person. To me being strong doesn’t mean that I can take everything that happens to me. I have had my share of bad times in life but I never let them make me be unhappy I always try to stay strong. I also consider myself a very helpful person. I always try to find a way to help others, but at the same time when I do that I always make sure that I am doing the right thing. What I mean by that is that, I always make sure that if someone needs my help I know that they really needed and that they are not just taking advantage of my kindness. Of course the people I always try to be with and help is my family. My family is a huge part of my life; they come first, before everything and anything. What I am trying to say about myself is that the “Ethical Lenses” I preferred to use the most are the “Responsibilities” and the “Relationship” lenses. One of my weaknesses is that I can get really distracted with the “Responsibilities” lens and for a while forget about friends and family because I am trying to work too hard. Ethics play a big part of your life every day you have to be really careful with the way you act with other and with yourself. It is not good to be a person that…
