There are those people who just study for 15 minutes and assume they are workaholics for nothing. And on the other hand, those who become slaves of work and say they aren’t even close to done with their work…..pretty much they are never done. So to begin with workaholics should not be confused with those high performers who enjoy their job and go the extra mile to get the job done.
The truth about real workaholics…I am stressing the word real…..is that like any addiction, they have a habit of working hard in unhealthy ways and are in most cases unproductive. They tend to let their families fall apart, often have health problems and constantly suffer from depression. Some Workaholics see their work as a place of safety and unwanted moments with family and friends. Or In some cases they put forward commitments to their families and friends but are eventually broken which goes something like this-You know you’re a workaholic when….your friends ask you when you’re free to go out and the only date you can give them is ‘I don’t know’ or three months from that moment… Other workaholics also tend to procrastinate and at the last moment like most of us do, attempt impossible demands....basically, a dose of adrenaline rush is needed to fulfill this. The main reason for being workaholics according to a recent study were 4 big traits: - 1.the high standards of perfection. 2. Narcissism-a feeling of self-centeredness and self-absorption. Thirdly, Compulsion- a workaholic
