Working Experience Research Paper
My first experience with nurses was through losing my brother unexpectedly after contracting an extremely rare condition; the invaluable care the nurses provided for not only my brother, but for my entire family through the whole ordeal, is the reason I became interested in pursuing this career. To be able to provide such a high level of care to others through my own learning and experience would be beyond rewarding. I want to be able to provide this care and knowledge through adult nursing.
Within my own family I have many relatives with additional needs who require being cared for. It is through this experience that I have discovered my natural interest and inclination to care for those who need it. My current job role has developed skills

I worked in a residential care home in which I had many responsibilities as a care assistant. Like adult nursing, I was there to care for people suffering from a variety of health conditions and diseases. While working here I learned the importance of working together to ensure the utmost and most efficient level of care for our residents, while appreciating the importance of following the instructions given to us by our senior staff. Many of my residents suffered with dementia and from working with them I discovered I had a natural inclination to help provide reassurance and comfort, through communication, to people that may have become confused and disarrayed. I had to show that I could work effectively and competently under pressure. I learned to prioritise my workload and build my own initiative to establish what needed my attention foremost. I had to fill out care plans at the end of every shift, I had to make sure my writing was eligible and to the point, and making sure I was following the company procedures and policies correctly. Despite the work being hard and tense at times, I found myself investing myself into it and committing as the rewarding feeling I was getting from caring for others made it all

Pursuing a career in the nursing field was the first change that I decided to make when I held my sister's hand as she gave birth to my three year old nephew. Since then, my awareness for the well-being of others increased while learning more about nurses and what they do. My first experience volunteering at Texas Children's Hospital has also encouraged me even more to become a nurse when I encountered my first four year old cardiac patient. I was prepped by his nurse in how to safely interact with the patient while she was helping me into my protective gown and gloves. The real inspiration was actually meeting the patient and lessening his anxiety of being in a hospital through one on one contact.…

There have been many occasions in my life that I have spent time in hospitals, nursing homes and by the side of a sick relative. When my grandfather was dying of cancer, he spent as much time as he could at home with his family by his side and when the time came, he was transferred to hospital, I was 14 at the time, still very young I knew it was not about how I was feeling, this pain was his and my grandmothers. I helped look after him for the two years he was diagnosed and it was during that time, I knew where my heart was and that was nursing. With my own experience of being in and out of hospital with two complicated pregnancies, I was in awe of the nurses and midwives who did everything they could to make me feel secure and safe, I was inspired and made an already certain career choice, even more evident.…

I like to believe that there are an array of factors and values that I have encompassed throughout my life that have played a role in forming my personal philosophy of nursing. I have always viewed myself as a kind and compassionate individual who enjoys helping others. As I have previously mentioned, my mother has been an oncology nurse for my entire life. I view her as one of, if not the main influential aspects in deciding upon my career. When I was younger I always enjoyed hearing her stories or reading her letters from patients about how helpful and caring she had been. She always came home with a smile on her face and would say that even after the most stressful day, knowing that she was able to make a difference in someone else’s life, is what kept her going. I have used that as a fuel in my own career. I made it one of…

I would love to help others like my grandmother. My grandmother was the biggest eye opener for me because I lived it.
