While completing my hours I was able to talk with many different people. Throughout my observations I was able to ask many questions, get an idea of where the agency started, and where it is now. I was able to work within a nursing home, drug court, and social services. All agencies are a bit different from each other and have developed at different rates. They were all able to show growth within the Human Service Profession.…

This article focuses on “girl watching” within the workplace as a debatable form of sexual harassment. One of the most important findings within sexual harassment is the ambiguity in actually defining specific acts of this common issue. For me, I have always felt uncomfortable with the looks and sounds some men may give me while out in public or my workplace specifically which is why I can relate to this article. Some men claim that women are too sensitive or that they often misconstrue men’s intentions. Some women claim that men just “don’t get it.” In-depth interviews were conducted with 43 employed men and women to examine a particular social practice of “girl watching” as a way to understand these gender differences. Girl watching is still…

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the ability to recognize one’s own emotions and those of others and to analyze these emotions to guide one’s personal thinking and actions. Previous research indicates that people are more effective at their jobs when they have a good understanding of emotions. EI is divided into five categories; self-awareness, self-management, self-motivation, empathy, and social skills. Understanding one’s own EI provides insight into one’s management abilities including: leadership, individual performance, group performance, interpersonal/social exchange, managing change, and conducting performance evaluations (“Emotions and emotional intelligence“, 1996). This papers focus is the cumulative analysis of my own EI (also known as social intelligence) and the interactions that may occur in my University of Phoenix team.…

As Social Workers we need to observe the toddler according to the norms of the Daycare and how the toddler conducts himself in the lobby of his Daycare. The healthier the relationship a child has, the more likely the child will be to recover from trauma and thrive. Relationships are the agents of change and the most powerful therapy is human love (Perry & Szalavitz, 2006).The toddler in question is considered to be a part of what society considers as Hispanic lower class. The specific family member that is being critiqued is the son. The other family members that live in the same household are the mother, step-father, daughter, and son. We will discuss the toddler in the contexts of the Daycare and the theories we has discussed through-out the graduate curriculum.…

From high school till retirement, you work. Over half of your life is spent working and with that comes relationships, new environments, communications, and gender roles can all come into play. After observing six of my coworkers for 24 hours I found many psychological happenings within the group. I have worked with my coworkers for almost a year now and some of us have grown strong relationships, others are still somewhat outcasted from others. Our boss clearly shows favoritism, but still treats us equally with respect. Two of my coworkers are getting married later this year, so they often bond over their weddings. My workplace is mostly made up of females, which show gender roles coming into play as well. Just like school work has even its…

For my familiar place observation, I decided to spend the day observing my coworkers and my work surroundings. I work at a coating shop in the quality office I have a window facing out into the shop making it easy for me to watch my surroundings. I spend forty hours a week at work and with my coworkers but I never stopped to look around and observe my surrounding while I’m there. My observations took place on November 15th, 2017 from 7:00am to 3:30pm I was stunned at some of the behavior, rules, and norms that were broken though out the day. I watched ten of my coworkers throughout the day, they didn’t know I was watching them throughout the day, thus their behavior was real throughout the day opposed to as if they would have acted if they…
