Factual Adequacy The fourth criterion to evaluate a worldview is factual adequacy. Factual adequacy evaluates the historical and empirical dimensions of life. Factual adequacy simply means that a worldview may be internally …show more content…
consistent yet inconsistent with respect the reality it attempts to describe. A good example of this is the claims of Jesus. For instance, Jesus said if you have seen me, you have seen the Father. Yet the Bible says, no man has seen the God at any time. Again, the Bible declares that Moses talked to Yahweh's face to face. It is these types of factual adequacy that confuse the simple and add fire to the strategic Christian.
Radical Readjustment When a worldview is faced with potential defeating counterevidence an adherent may readjust its core claims to accommodate the evidence against it, radical readjustment. The Old Testament speaks of a man of God, a Prophet of the Lord, who challenge other prophets to call upon their god to display his authority and power. As the other prophet god did not answer they radically readjusted to the cutting of themselves, with the hopes of hearing from their deity. Similarly, today, many worldviews change their core beliefs to ad hoc readjustment revealing a deeper problem at the core. Jehovah Witnesses, for example, now say they are out doing the great commission of what Jesus has commanded. Yet they themselves will not rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit. “If a worldview substantially alters its essential claims considering counterevidence, it loses rational justification.”
The Christian Alternative Many worldviews promise answers, peace, prosperity, and power, but none promise eternal life with God as does Christianity.
“The simple fact is that there are many different, mutually exclusive answers given to religious questions.” Christianity is the only religion that has the claim of a living Redeemer, who has proven to have risen from the dead and there is infallible proof to back such claims. Since no man, today can explain these claims nor disprove them. Why not give Jesus a try? What does one have to lose? One should consider this, If God is not real and the penalty for not accepting his Son is eternal separation, why not? If Christian alternative is correct, and I believe it is. When you die, and we all will die, and find out God does not exist, we have lost nothing; but if God does exist and we die without accepting Jesus Christ and living the redeemed life, then we have lost
everything.
Explanation of Christian Worldview The Christian worldview is an assertion of reality and the beliefs are supported by proactive apologetics. The Christians worldview is censored to the answering of Christian beliefs. Therefore, the Christian worldview stands strong in its mission of Jesus Christ. Christianity is not solely based on apologia (defense), but the spreading of the how Christ was born of a virgin, live a life as a mere man, died by the hands of sinful men, rose as a redeeming Savior, and will return as an absolute God.
Coherence
The object of coherence is clarity. The Christian worldview and belief present a coherent claim with clarity. The truth is Christian belief that man was made after the image of God. The truth is that due to disobedience, man has inherited a sinful nature. The truth is Jesus Christ has redeemed man from both the sting of death and the actions of sin by obedience. The Christian worldview is based solely on the Bible which makes the Christian faith coherent. “The intention of the Cross is the salvation of the elect alone.” of the cross is for Christians alone
Factual Adequacy In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word is God, and the Word dwelt among men and we beheld his glory, mercy, and truth. This is factual adequacy. “Christian worldview in its deepest level, is a system of truth claims or assertions about reality.”
Radical Readjustment “A person of intellectual rectitude will strive to believe truths that fit coherently into an overall pattern, free from spin and equivocation.” When this occurs in the Christian worldview it is determined to be a radical readjustment. Thus, consider the prudence card. The Christian belief system allows Christians to use a personal testimony if it does not devolve into pragmatism. “If a worldview substantially alters its essential claims considering counterevidence, it loses rational justification.” Christians can claim that the Bible has solved the problem of evil, but we must also consider “the cosmological argument that establishes the existence of God as Creator, and a teleological argument for God as Designer, a moral argument for God as the source of the moral law and so on.” That if God is sovereign then evil is a part of his design.
Defense of Christianity Our worldviews shape who we are as Christians and what we do. We are faithful to what we believe and have no qualms with sharing them with others. While other worldviews involve a truth, we as Christian see God as absolute truth, no exceptions. The Christian worldview, compared to, postmodernism does not offer false claims and rejects absolute truth. The Christian belief is not oppressive like Postmodernism worldview which seeks to distort our fundamental belief system, for instance, “God either wishes to take away evil, and is unable; or he is able and unwilling, or he is neither willing nor able, or he is both willing and able.” “While it is a unique human capacity to call one’s belief into question, a torrent of social forces encourages us to be unconsciously swept along with the surging culture that we might obediently consume its product, endorse its ideology and generally do its bidding.”
Defense of the Resurrection of Jesus The resurrection of Jesus is one of the capstones of the Christian faith. Without it our faith is void and we are most men miserable, Paul says. The resurrection of Jesus gives mankind several truths. First, man will die. Second, those who die in Christ have been promised to be resurrected as he was and enter his reward. Next, the teaching of Jesus was validated upon his resurrection, as he claimed it would. Therefore, all preaching after the death of Jesus make the resurrection its “lynchpin, fulcrum, and center of gravity.” To the Christian the resurrection Christ is the most important belief system any theology can have. Simply, because other religions theory is that of a leader who left important information, with no afterlife of redemption. As Groothuis masterly said it, “The resurrection of Christ, is true, ensures that life under the sun is not meaningless, that death is not the end and that humans who rightly relate themselves to God in Christ can become agents of the kingdom of God now and eventually thrive in a restored universe without curse and without end.”
Defense of objective truth and moral values One can say that Christ was a mere man, this is a truth. One can say God became a man and dwelt among us, this is also a truth. One can say that the Bible was written by men to bring order to a society void of balance, this is a truth as well. The objective truth from a postmodernist worldview is that truth is decisional. Which could make one’s moral values “apatheism” Which the Christian belief has no relaxed attitude toward religion and irreligion. “Objective truth from a Christian worldview is objectively true, rational and pertinent is essential to Christianity witness today.”
Conclusion
The objective of this research paper was to show that the Christian worldview is far superior to that of a postmodern worldview. This paper provided insight of what really is postmodernism. Postmodernism has not proven that its worldview is absolute truth and from a Christian worldview it distorts the Christian belief system. The evaluation of what postmodernism truly is being evaluated and there is a vast difference in worldviews. When the Christian worldview is measured against the eight criterions it stands firm. Whereas, postmodernism loses credibility and value. Lastly, a defense for the resurrection of Jesus Christ will be administered along with both a defense of moral values and objective truths. The author of this paper hopes that the recipient of this research document will have to gain additional knowledge about the postmodernist worldview, plus see that the Christian worldview is far superior.
