Worms Vs. Dry Creatures
The worms chose the wet side of the paper towels rather than the dry side because the prefer moist places. This statement becomes clear when the data of the two trials is looked over. The data proves that mealworms prefer the wet side of the paper towel. Research says that mealworms prefer moist, dark places, and that cold stunts their growth. When the mealworms were taken out of the fridge, the larvae were slow to get moving. This is why the data for trial one is so scattered around. But by trial two the worms were all warmed up and active so the larvae were a lot quicker to get to where they wanted to go. That is why the data in trial two isn’t very scattered but trial one is very scattered. During the lab it took longer for the worms to

The rate of respiration in mealworms from the twelve experimental tubes in the light treatment ranged from 0.0489 mL O2/g/hr to 1.1611 mL O2/g/hr. The average rate of respiration was determined to be 0.4034 ± 0.1886 mL O2/g/hr. The rate of respiration in mealworms from the six control tubes of light treatment ranged from 0 mL O2/g/hr to 0.0859 mL O2/g/hr. The average rate of respiration of them was determined to be 0.0208 ± 0.0068 mL O2/g/hr. The CI bars of the experimental tubes and the control tubes in this treatment did not overlap, so they were determined to be significantly different from each other.…

    Pill Bug Vs Rotten Meat

The results from our experiment does support our hypothesis. When comparing and viewing the data of the amount of pullets that were recording, pill bugs preferred rotten fruit to rotten meat. The accuracy of our data was based upon the amount of times the treatment was repeated and the amount of Pill bugs that died. Pill bugs cannot live in a cold environment because they will freeze. Due to the irregular climate in the North country, that would be a factor that could not have been controlled and would be one of the variables that caused the pill bugs to die. If this experiment was replicated, a controlled climate and a longer testing period would help produce more stable results.…

The question investigated in this lab was which drugs have the greatest and least affect on the pulse of the Lumbriculus variegates. Ethanol will cause the worms to become inactive, caffeine will cause the worms to become overactive, and nicotine will cause the worms to become more active. Lumbriculus variegatus is also known as black worm. This small species of worms currently lives in North America and Europe within marshes and ponds. They survive by eating microorganisms and organic, decaying material. This organism of worms makes a good model because they are able to regenerate if their head or tail is removed within two or three weeks. Under a microscope their skin is transparent and their pulsation rates are easy to count.…

Not just in our experiment, but the overall object of this investigation was to find what type of environment did the bugs respond to. Our experiment was conducted to provide an answer to the question and not to give irrelevant numbers as our data. As we kept on putting different types of environments in the chamber, I realized that the damp soil was most likely going to be the one that the pill bugs responded most positively to, thus proving the fact that pill bugs like dark and damp environments as habitats. The way that my group analyzed the data was by simply placing the different types of environments that occur in nature, obviously in smaller amounts, and watched the pill bugs go to what they thought was an ideal habitat. To answer the question, there was simply no other way to collect data other than to observe how the pill bugs reacted to the different types of environments given. There was no need for calculations, so this was the only way to accomplish the goal of the lab:…

This result corresponded to the prediction made before the experiment was conducted. The amphipod feeding preference is probably due to the Norway leaves’ softer texture. Amphipods are capable of chewing on the soft tissue between leaf veins however, as seen with the data collected amphipods seem to favor softer leaf species because amphipods are able to consume softer with much less effort. By favoring the softer Norway leaves, amphipods are able to convert the coarse particulate organic matter into fine particulate matter much easier than the Silver leaves. This means that softer leaves would offer much more fine leaf particulate matter, which would in turn provide more nutrients and energy sources to lower level feeders in comparison to tougher…

In the beginning of The Cheese and the Worms, the readers are introduced to a miller named Domenico Scandella, who the narrator refers to as Menocchio. It was uncertain where Menocchio retained his knowledge, but it is obvious that he picked up learning how to read somewhere. No one knows for sure, but it is assumed that there was a school built near Menocchio’s village. It may have been possible for Menocchio to attend this school and have the opportunity to learn to read books, like the bible. Menocchio was a miller, was married and had eleven children. He also was the mayor of his village.…

Two different organisms that Darwin studied were finches and earthworms. Charles Darwin tested earthworms behaviour, food preferences and sensitivity to noise and lights. When Charles Darwin tested the earthworms by placing a piece of food on top of a piece of tin foil to see if the worms would try to dig through the foil. He also learned what food they prefer. He found that earthworms prefer wild cherries and carrots. He also found that the worms prefer fat to meat. Darwin found out how much the worms enjoy eating. The way that Darwin figured out if the worms were intelligent or not was by trying to get the worms to pull and bury things. Darwin tested a sense of the worms by screaming at the worms and blowing a whistle at the worms. He…

Cheese and the Worms shows religious conflicts in the sixteenth-century through the court records of a small town miller who used different books to come up with his own view on religion. The fact that a man from a small town with very little education could use his very limited resources to become a target of the Catholic Church shows how much the Church was fighting to hold onto its power and influence. The book draws its information from the inquisition court records, which included the testimony of Menocchio’s fellow villagers and his own interactions with the inquisitors.…

    Earthworm Lab Report

There are times when it is necessary to go through something both inside and outside, literally, to learn. This was exactly the case with virtual lab #11 where the experiment called for an examination of an earthworm’s exterior anatomy and interior anatomy. The earthworm as a whole is considered the dependent variable as we cannot change it. However, the labels to be placed can be moved so they are the independent variables. My hypothesis is quite elementary. I believe that after studying the anatomy of an earthworm I will be better educated about it.…
