Writer's Procrastination: Personal Narrative Analysis
I have been suffering from what I call writer's procrastination. I have plenty to write. Enough to get me well into next year. I seem to have a hard time making myself sit down to do it. When I do sit down, I find other things that catch my attention. Oh look, a new crochet pattern!
I think that sometimes the trouble is not that I do not want to write but that I know when I get into a creative flow state, which is usually when I have to stop. In addition, do you know what? It can be physically painful for me. When totally focused on one task, switching gears is never easy. I work part time, there are days when I am scheduled for mornings, and sometimes it is mid-day.
I am not going to let it get me down. Yes, I am not writing as fast or

I had 4 memoirs left to write for the following day and annoyed with myself I began to spill words onto Microsoft word compromising the quality of my work to simply get it done. Never had I felt so abashed by my procrastination. Maybe it was because this time was different. This time I didn’t even know I was procrastinating. Humans are creatures of habit however, and that’s why I find this experience to be somewhat comical.…

Everybody has probably experienced writer’s block sometime in their life, and it can be very frustrating. When you do get writer’s block, it makes you distracted because your mind goes off into its own world. The more you get distracted, the harder it is to concentrate. Then whatever it is you have to write ends up taking so long it feels like time itself slows to a stop, and your eyes go blurry from staring at the screen for so long. Seriously, that happened to me writing the first draft of this. It's especially bad when you have to adjust to a new form of writing. For example, first year college writing, papers in a new field of study, longer essays that you aren’t used to, or a long research paper, like the Senior Mastery Project, which should be called the Senior Misery Project. I especially hate writing for a reader who have been overly critical or demanding in the past, or when I remember negative criticism received in the past, even if the reader who criticized my work won’t be reading my writing…

Ever since I was a sixth grader, the first three things that I wake up to see are my alarm clock, planner and pen. Regardless of it being a weekend or a weekday, I always start my day with a schedule. One of the biggest lessons I have is to limit my time on TV, social media and my cell phone. I have learned to plan breaks and I can stick to them.…

Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is hard for me to stop procrastinating. I believe I do my best writing at the last minute. I usually wait until the night before to do most of it. I am usually up late the night before the paper is due. Having things due dates has kept me on task, and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your result will be. That was my mistake with the argumentative paper.…

My writing process is usually all over the place, I have to be in my room with my door shut, my music on, my fan on, and my television on, weird, I know, but that is what I have to do in order to keep myself concentrated. After I am all situated I begin by writing down different ideas on a couple sheets of paper, listing ways I could support this idea and how it relates to my topic, sometimes when I am stuck I look up sample essays online to help me out of my rut. Once I finally choose an idea I start writing the first things that pop into my head down on another sheet of paper, it usually ends up being a jumbled mess that only I can understand. After all of my ideas are laid out onto the paper I begin placing numbers beside them so I know…

My writing process all depends on what I am writing. Some writings I can sit down and write the whole things and be done with it, while others can take me multiple days or even weeks. I normally sit down and work on it until I finish, get tired of it, or a hit a roadblock. I try to stop when I feel like I am writing the same thing over and over or if I feel like I just need a break. Most of the time, if I feel like I am writing and it is really bad, it is because it is and I need to take a break and come back to it later. Working on it in pieces normally works well for me, to break it up and take it a little bit at a time. I normally struggle when I do not like what I am writing about or when I run out of information to put in my writing. I…

With all this being said about my writing weaknesses I still find ways to enjoy writing and work past the struggles in writing- I may not be the most organized writer in the world, while the graphic organizers do indeed help me, but I always find myself changing my mind on what to write, whatever sounds better to the ear to me. My desire to change what I already have written may be why I’m unorganized at times. One thing that anybody that truly knows me knows, is that I rarely ever quit something once it is started, and I will continue to do my best until it is physically impossible for me to do…

I used to believe I was a good writer. Throughout my elementary school education, creative writing dominated curriculum which allowed my extremely creative mindset to thrive. In middle school, I developed an elitist mentality about my writing ability. Believing that I reached my academic peak, I felt no need to sharpen my writing skills, causing me to become close minded to critique or other writing styles. Upon entering high school, I still clung to the idea that I was the best, but after my first week of class, I realized how weak my writing skills were in contrast to those of other students. Now, I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses as a writer, and hope to have come far from my middle school self.…

A lack of patience is the main reason I have trouble with writing. Before college, I was unwilling to put a significant amount of time into truly understanding a topic, forming a credible standpoint, and editing the paper. Nonetheless, it was important for me to complete the writing assignments to have a grasp of writing skills. Although writing has played a significant role in my education up to this point, it will not necessarily be an important part in my career choice of nursing.…

My writing process has evolved since the beginning of the year. Looking back at my previous essays and writing assignments over the course of the semester, I can distinctively see a gradual improvement through the different pieces of writing. Even though the differences from my early works at the beginning of the semester might not be drastic, the small improvements are what positively impacted my writing style. From the beginning of class until now, I have discovered new strengths and weaknesses, redefined my writing process, and corrected mistakes from the essays along the way.…

I struggle with procrastination in all my subjects, but English seems to be the worse subject to stay ahead in. It always seems to me that I tell myself I am going to write, and then on the way to my computer I become sidetracked faster than a train in a blizzard. I also struggle with finding a unique writing style. I suppose that can be attributed to how many English teachers I have had. Coming up through school, most of how I was taught to write was for the state tests.…
