Adversity can bring out the positive and negative sides in a person. In “The Proof of Worth,” Edgar Albert Guest demonstrates how challenges in life can help someone understand what he or she is capable of during a hardship. Similarly, “The Importance of Adversity in Growth and Development” written by Patrick Kohan exemplifies how children will never learn how to conquer an obstacle if they are always given assistance. Furthermore, Laura Hillenbrand’s novel, Unbroken, indicates that experiencing problems can affect the way a person’s body reacts and thinks about a difficult moment. Ultimately, the authors highlight that obstacles can be a complex or helpful task, as well as benefit people in the future when they need to know their true talents.…

While they may not be able to control all of their circumstances, they can learn to manage his or her response. My goal is to make sure my students understand that they matter and that they are worthy and have a choice. I say this because it is human nature not to readily take responsibility and place blame when things don’t go well. While I understand some students may have tumultuous circumstances, I still must try and encourage them to choose a positive path. I believe we become what we believe. My goal is to help students experience a shift in thinking so they can begin to see themselves and their situations differently so that they can begin accept the reality of the current circumstances and try and work beyond those perceived limitations. You experience a change in thought when you begin to know and value yourself and take responsibility for your own…

Every human struggles everyone has hardship. When I was young I began to notice that maybe it is hard to understand what other people struggle with. The start of a mundane life began as usual a bus ride to school, but today something else happened a flash of yellow a soundless luxury sports car zoomed bass by a Lamborghini. As the car passed by everyone looked at it with amazement as the never seen a car pass from this part of the street. I began to wonder when will I get one with imaginary job I will live the high life. The bus hits a bump on the road I am begging to rationalize who much work will it take to achieve greatness to struggle to overcome adversity.…

I want to be a Medical Administrative Assistant at Vanderbilt hospital to honor my late sister and my parents. When I was 18 years old my sister Debbie died from cancer. The majority of my childhood and teenage years were spent in hospitals and the majority of my parent's money went to paying the doctors. During this period of my life I thought medicine was doing more harm than good. Because I was older at the time of Debbie's death my perception about medicine changed and I became motivated to find out why medicine costs so much and why some procedures cost more than others? So I studied hard, became Valedictorian of my class, earning a full scholarship to Vanderbilt University and now I'm ready to become a member of the Vanderbilt hospital community. It would be a great honor to secure one of the three Medical Administrative Assistants positions.…

It can be hard to have to defend yourself on the fly, making preparedness a necessary by-word. Some of the best survival gear is the simpler gear, and some of it is even legal, even if it not for that use in particular. Pepper spray and blow horns are always pretty safe bets, as they can at least distract an attacker and give you that extra second or two to decide on how to take him down or run away. A roll of quarters is the old standby; not only can it help you pay for a ride out of the situation, but it is the basic fist load. For the same reason, old keys can be useful; they are never suspected of adding extra damage to a punch until they are actually used. Not quite fitting the pattern, but useful in its own right is an energy bar, as it can help balance you after a fight-or-flight response. By the same token, a pre-paid credit card is always nice, as it can be loaded up almost anywhere and gives you emergency funds anywhere you can use a credit or debit card.…

Starting off my first semester of college I didn't know what to expect, the first day felt like the first day of high school all over again. With graduation over and the first day of college over, high school was just like college. When entering my reading class it reminded me of my senior writing class but with a twist of personality. What I learned in reading class this semester was more of a review of my senior writing and reading class combined. I enjoyed learning about both topics because it would help my vocab in the essays I would have to write. The thing I liked most about this class was that I had a lot of knowledge about the topic when starting. I knew what we were talking about so it made it more joyful to learn about the subject…
