Writing Goals

In this paper I will discuss my goals as a writer and ways that can help me write effectively, and write so that the audience whom I’m writing will be able to understand what my points are without trying to guess. As I began to write this essay I began to ask myself “why am I’m writing and what message I need for my audience to receive. I’ve noticed something, most times I set goals I don’t follow through with them because I never take the time to write my goals down, and secondly I tend to forget because I’ve not written them down. I’ve noticed on occasion when I did write my goals down I always followed through on them. While it gave me clarity on what I’m supposed to be doing I always complete things I do when I write them down. One of the challenges I face when writing is “structure”. It comes from me not knowing where to put marks such as: commas, semi colons, and exploration marks to name a few. I’ve noticed that structure has a lot to do with daily activities and not just writing. I also have a hard time with my opening sentencing. Which is, “what is the purpose of my writing, and what idea am I trying to relay to my audience”?
The reasons why I’ve set goals for writing is, it will force me to clarify what I want as a better writer. When I write down my thoughts verses trying to remember I can clearly understand what and why I wrote the idea down. It will also motivate me to take action on my goals to become a better writer; another reason is it could land me a world of opportunities such as promotions on my job, but my main reason is it will help me to see my progress as a writer. Where I am at this current time and where I’ll be in 8 weeks after this class is complete.
The steps I will take in order for me to reach my goals will be to write my material down before I submit it, reread it over and over to make sure I am reaching my intended audience, grammar check and have someone proofread the material to have that second

In life, to successfully move forward I need to establish goals. “The tragedy in life is not reaching your goal, but having no goal to reach” (Leadership for Student Activities, 2005). I must have a plan of how I will achieve my goals and be able to identify when an important element of that goal is reached. Possible setbacks must be considered and purposeful schemes arranged for when the unexpected shows up. According to Deci and Ryan (1984), “Goals, whether trivial, routine, significant or life altering, are part of peoples everyday lives”.…

I have realized that there is not just one key concept that works for me. In fact I am sure that is a combination of all of them that will make me a better candidate for the business world. The two that I will use the most will have to be Unit 2, Manage your Time and Stress, and Unit 7, Goals and Planning. By learning how to manage my time and stress better will allow me to become a better part of the business community. In this manner by reducing my stress will allow me to better focus on the important aspects that need my attention. Learning how to manage my time came from the help of my family by allowing me to have time to myself to focus on my studies every day. Another great help has been the proper use my daily planner. It has been a great contribution to my success in this class. I will be using my planner for all my classes and I am also using it for work. This is a great course for me because it is the first class I have taken since graduating high school 15 years ago. The things that I learned in Unit 6, Academic Writing, will be great use for my next class which is Writing Composition. I will be taking what I have learned from this course and apply it to my next, and so on and so on. From Unit 7 came setting forth my short term and long term goals. I learned how to use the S.M.A.R.T. goal planning technique. I learned that using a series of short term goals helps me to achieve my long term goal. This works for me because if I can see progress and it is easier for me to stay on track and achieve the long term goal. So many times I have set myself a goal and never accomplished it because I could not see the progress and lost interest. There were a lot of other units that will come in use during the rest of my tenure here at Kaplan University, everything from critical thinking and research to scheduling and conducting an interview. I loved the exercises that…

The necklace by Guy Maupassant is a story about a woman who was pretty and charming but she married poor. She wasn’t satisfied with her life and always wanted to live like the rich. Her husband did all he could to keep her happy. One day he brought home an invitation to attend a ball hoping this will delight his wife since she like to be fancy and rich. However his wife almost turned down the invitation because she didn’t have anything to wear. He was able to get her new clothing for the ball and to finish her outfit she borrowed a diamond necklace from a friend to wear to the ball. They had a great time at the ball however she lost the diamond necklace. She and her husband had to work hard and spend all their life savings to replace the necklace. At the end of the story, the woman ran into her friend she borrowed the necklace from and learned that it was a fake necklace instead of real diamonds. This is a very entertaining story and the writer was able to make the readers understand the deep and hidden meaning of events and because of that I agree that Maupassant ultimate goal is achieved through symbolism.…

Deciding where I would like to be, and how to get there in five to 10 years will take a lot of conscious effort, to do this I will need to identify some goals that will help me get there, whether it be personal or professional is very important. Several steps are involved to be successful, such as defining the goals, setting a time frame and putting a plan into action. With any serious goal, a strong support system must be used, to avoid becoming overwhelmed when challenges arise. “Make sure your goals and expectations are realistic. Unrealistic goals are self-defeating. Make sure the goals are measurable, manageable, and meaningful to you, not to please somebody else.” (Chitty & Black, 2007, p. 266).…

The main goal for my writing, is to make what I write clear to read and understand. I believe that using the correct punctuation, words, and writing structure can ultimately help the readability of what I write. I want my future writing to be works of a vision, an idea, or encouragement to people one day. I don’t necessarily want to write a book, however, I do want to write articles on a blog or newspaper about entrepreneurship, technology, and success. Using the best writing techniques is also important in day-to-day business. I write proposals, contracts, and documentation of work done. It’s crucial for the writing in these documents to be very clear to read to avoid a misunderstanding, and potential problems down the road. I’m hoping…

This class seems to be intense and straight to the point. This is what I need in English because writing is one of my weaknesses. I want to broaden my vocabulary and make sure my spelling is correct, for the most part. I am a singer and one of my goals is to be able to write my own music—maybe I can accomplish that in this class. As you can probably see, my focus and organization is all over the place. I can use a lot of work on organization and focus skills. It takes me awhile to start an essay or paper; I hope that with a lot more practice I can be a competent writer. I want to be able to master that art of writing a thesis statement; I have a feeling that we are going to be doing a lot of thesis statements. I need to eliminate my crap words and just get to the point of whatever I am talking about. I like the textbook that we are learning from and I am excited to see where I will be when this course is finished. I have a lot of soul searching to do in the next fifteen weeks. A lot of events have happened in the past two weeks that have changed my life and I am looking for outlets to express my feelings; writing is going to be one of them. I was in a car accident a couple of weeks ago and I totaled my car. I am never going to have a car again but that’s not that important. The accident was really bad and I am really lucky that I am alive. I was in a little Jetta and the other car was a Ford Explorer. I am a sponge and I want to learn new things all the time and this class I will learn a great deal of information. I really enjoy reading and the textbook is a good book for me to…

Mathematics, the abstract science of number, quantity, and space. Mathematics may be studied in its own right, or as it is applied to other disciplines such as physics and engineering. Math has been a dreadful subject for me since grade school. I recall asking myself as a child “why aren’t I skilled in math as I am all my other subjects?” crying and frustration would always be the result of attempting to complete a problem. There is some type of mental blockage when it comes to math. My past experiences with the subject have only made my future encounters with it worse. My problem is math. I am failing the course and the very idea drives me to insanity, sadness, and contravention.…

I set goals for myself in regards to my writing before I came into college, they were that I wouldn’t get offended when I was criticized towards my writing, I would do what was needed to make my writing better than in high school, and that I will use the techniques in every writing assignment that I had. What I aimed for this class as far as my goals I do believe that I stuck to my goals and didn’t stray from them. I knew that I wanted to better myself as far as writing and my techniques, and I have stuck to that…
