Internal and External Factors
There are five internal and external factors that have significant impact on all four functions of management, those being planning, organizing, leading and controlling. Knowing what these factors are, how to identify and address both the internal and external implications of their impact is key to success in any business or project. My paper will focus on one business unit of General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), their Health and Human Services Division and the Contact Center business.

GDIT has a leadership and innovation program that brings together talent from all areas and all regions of the company for a period of twelve months. These individuals are broken out into groups and each group is given either a piece of business or process that needs to be overhauled or is given a current problem in need of a solution and they have twelve months to come up with recommendations that they present to the GDIT corporate board of directors for review and potential implementation. This program has helped GDIT to streamline processes that affect millions of Medicare and Affordable Care Act Beneficiaries and has also allowed them to retain old business and gain contracts for new business as a result of these …show more content…
GDIT has an amazing pulse on each of these fields and continues to drive forward to be in industry leader. In the area of staff, GDIT has some of the most liberal and open views of any company I have worked for. Sixty percent of our leadership team is comprised of women in senior leadership roles of Program Manager, Director, or Vice President. We also have a very large number of the leadership team that are openly members Gay and Lesbian community. When GDIT looks for new locations for our Contact Center business we focus on areas of the country where we can provide much needed jobs to the area. In the past five years we have moved into eight new states and have placed business in rural areas providing jobs to over fifteen thousand previously unemployed
