Yankee Candle Company Case Study
I will be using the Yankee Candle Company, Inc. code of business conduct and ethnics to do this assignment. The things I would like to change are the wording of the code and who to contact. Clearly state how to monitor and train the employees on the code. Need to state what the consequence are if the code is violated and the consequence of false reporting. Not to include a waiver of ethnics. Change the workplace conduct to be more explicit on what constitute as ethnical behavior. Change the wording of conflicts of Interest section. Change how the company comes across as being aggressive about protecting their finances, then about how individuals should present themselves.

I would have it state clearly, and precisely what the code expects from all individuals working for the company and the actions that the individuals need to do. Such as, no drinking, no swearing, no drugs, appropriate clothing, no stealing, etc… Throughout the code of conduct it states that individuals have question or concern to contact supervisor or company general counsel for advice. I would have a list of the name of supervisors because not all individuals know who their supervisor is and who the members of the general counsel are. I would add to the code how the employees will be monitor under the code and how and when training classes for the code of conduct should be apply. The code of conduct as it now stands, states only that the company will coordinated programs. Also, I would to add steps that would be taken when the code is violated. There should be steps leading up to termination and individuals should know what they are. Steps that will be taken when a individual report a false claim. I think it should have a list of supervisor because it will be easier for individual to find a person to report abuse or have a question. Individual will need a list especially if, they are reporting abuse about their supervisor. New employees may not know who their supervisor or general counsel is. The reason I would add a section about monitoring individuals and training them is because it would hold the company and individuals accountable for their actions. By including the steps that will be taken when there is a violation of the code of conduct. This would be a fair and just system because individual would know the consequence of their actions. There need to be a section about false reporting because not every individual is going to be fair and honest in treating other employees with respect. The reason why I would have the wavier removed is because there should be no exceptions to the code. It leaves the door open for anyone to interpret what constitute as a waiver. It would be contradicting to have a waiver in a code of conduct in the same paragraph. To have the workplace conduct section expanded would give individual a clear expectation of what is demand of individual. To change the wording of the conflict of interest section is to remove the repetitiveness of the wording.
