Some costs for traditional schooling are electric bills, transportation bills, building upgrades, and salaries. Year-round schooling encounters the same type of costs but with a variation on how much the price is. Year-round schooling requires maintenance to be done on the weekends because of the shorter summer break resulting in overtime pay. Extra staff and transportation may be needed which therefore makes the price skyrocket. There is also an increase in administrative costs for new creating the schedules. Operation costs increase because of the higher use of air conditioning during the summer. Building upgrades may be needed if a school is switching from a traditional schooling schedule to a year- round schooling schedule, such as more classroom space. This will prevent overpopulation. Siblings attending the same traditional school have the same break; therefore, family schedules will be the same to plan vacations and other excursions. Year-round schools can disrupt families when their children attend different schools. If one child attends a traditional school while the other attends a year-round school, the children may not have the same breaks together. This would occur if one child is in an elementary school that operates on a traditional schedule while the other child is in a high school that operates on a year-round schedule. Parents are put in an awkward situation where one child is on vacation while the other attends school. Another family situation is a teacher in a year-round school who is a parent to a child who attends a traditional school.
