Myths are relevant to today’s society because they give represent what the society feels morally, politically, religiously, and philosophically. “Yet Do I Marvel” was written almost a hundred years ago but can be generalized into today’s society by all that we face. When anyone angers any god we have to face the consequences of our actions. That can be seen throughout the bible. In the poem “Yet do I Marvel” Tantalus and Sisyphus are doom to suffer in Hades for eternity. “Make plain the reason tortured Tantalus Is baited by the fickle fruit, declare, If merely brute caprice dooms Sisyphus To struggle up a never-ending stair,”(611). These two figures in this poem are forever suffering for …show more content…

Gay marriages have been one of the hottest and controversial topics in our society. There are still problems concerning this issue of homosexuality and gay marriages. Same sex marriages are legal in Hawaii, but in all other states couples must be of the opposite sex to form a marriage. Hawaii’s decision to legalize same sex marriages is considered a milestone victory for gays and may cause a ripple affect for similar action in other states. Those who support gay marriages justify their position by the concept of love. These supporters of gay marriages feel as though gay people are being deprived of their right to love. Many people believe that gay people deserve the right to love and to take that love and form a marriage. These people believe that gays want to feel justified, meaning that as a couple they should be able to define their own marriage for themselves and make their own set of rules. Supports of same-sex marriages feel as though homosexuals are being deprived of their God given right to get married. They believe that arguments against same sex marriages are unconstitutional, and they simply do not justify a ban on same sex marriages. It is not the idea of two people of the same sex getting married that frightens people so much, but it is the thought of change and the fact that the federal government will redefine marriage to allow same sex unions. When people picture the results of same sex marriages, they see images of unstable homes. Everyone would probably agree that homosexuality has changed our society, and legalizing same sex marriages is not likely to be an exception. It would be an injustice to discriminate against a person if he or she were…

It really doesn’t matter who you are, straight or not love is love no matter what you can forbid people to marry just because they fall in love with a person of the same gender, that is just sick. What gives gay people fewer rights than straight people? They are humans, we all are humans, it’s not a sickness and it’s not a phase, its reality5. Most of the reasons people give about same-sex marriage is because it is against other people’s (or their own) religions. Well, that is not right or acceptable you cannot get mad at someone eating a doughnut just because you are on a diet, so why restrict someone for doing what they want. If you are a believer that two people of the same sex getting married will send them to hell, doesn’t that just make heaven better for you6.…

Gay marriage is a hot topic that is debated and spoken about constantly around the globe. Gay marriage is by definition: the marriage of two people of the same sex, so either two men or two women, and this is the reason why it's so often spoken of and has many mixed opinions on the topic. Many people say that love is love, and marriage works if two people love each other no matter what gender, but many people argue against this. They argue that it's wrong and God created a woman and man (Adam and Eve) to love each other, not two people of the same sex. They argue that we shouldn't bother changing laws for a small amount of gay couples. Some even argue that gay marriage is 'just wrong' and it's offends God. There are so many reasons against gay marriage but why should sexuality or gender affect a couples legal rights?…

Today many people have their own opinions and beliefs when it comes down to the topic of gay marriage. I personally feel that gay marriage should be legalized. Yes God said, “That marriage is to be between a man and a woman.” My question is, “What gives people the right to judge or tell another human-being who to love or how to love?” I personally feel it’s insulting to one’s integrity and people should be able to express their love how they see fit.…

First of all, what is marriage? The institution of marriage is defined as between woman and man. God first created two kinds of people, which were woman and man. I believe the reason why god did that was he wanted us to take responsibility of each role. Women exist to take care of the daily life of men while men’s duty is to give her a good life. And finally, they end up as building up a happy family, with the kids playing around. Marriage should not be extended to same sex couple because homosexual relationship has nothing to do with procreation. How could they create a family tree without procreation? Some people might say, they could simply have children by adoption, which leads to another problem of gay marriage.…

Gay marriage is one the most controversial issues of today’s society, especially in America. The main arguments against gay marriage consists of the fact marriage is supposed to be between one man and one woman, gay relationships are sins, and homophobes. Barack Obama once said "Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law, for if we are truly created equal, and then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well.” He is saying if we are created equal then why are we treated differently based on who we love. Love is between two people. Two people meaning it could be two men, two women, or a man and a woman, but it doesn’t matter because its love. Marriage is just showing the world you found the person you love so why does it matter if it’s heterosexual or not. “Being gay is a sin.” That’s what you hear when it comes to a gay relationship, but premarital sex is also a sin and majority of the people saying that have already lost their innocence. The solution is an amendment to the U.S. Constitution defining a marriage between two people rather than just between a man and a woman. Religions are perfectly within their rights to not recognize the marriages. Homosexuals would likely have the legal right to marry in certain states within a couple of years. Both sides have a reason to be unhappy, but both sides also have a reason to feel better.…

People should be able to do what they want when it comes to them wanting to marry someone. It is absolutely wrong to tell someone that they cannot form the ultimate union with another person because it is publicly frown upon. We are supposed to live in the land of the free, and yet, we are controlled by the government when it comes to doing something that does not harm another person whatsoever. This is not fair. People are able to judge another person and give them freedom after committing the ultimate crime, such as murder, but they are not allowed to form a union with someone that is of the same sex. America, sometimes sadly, doesn’t make sense. People cannot help whom they fall in love with or who they are attracted to. As a Christian, I understand the opposing side. The bible states that homosexuality is an abomination. Marriage is designated between a man and a woman, but as time evolves so does many things. As a part of my…
