The black bear is the largest mammal in the park, but rodents make up the most of the mammals in the park. There are 22 species of reptiles in the park 1 Turtle, 1 Skink, 7 Lizards, and 13 Snakes. The diminutive Pacific Treefrog is Yosemite's most common frog species. The Sierra Nevada yellow-legged frog, the Yosemite toad, and the Mount Lyell Salamander are only found in the Sierra Nevada of California. Bullfrogs eat anything they can get their mouth around including: native frogs, toads, salamanders, small mammals, snakes, turtles, even birds and bats. They are 17 different bat species in the park. The most common species of bat in the park is the Brown Bat. An astounding 262 species of birds have been documented in Yosemite. The American Dipper Fish plunges underneath ice in its search for aquatic insects and minnows. During spring and fall, large numbers of migrating birds can be seen and heard as they fly through the sky. The fish that live in the park live in the lower elevations. There are 3 main groves of sequoias in the park : The Mariposa , Merced, and Tuolumne groves. Lichens can grow on bare rock faces at up to 13,000 feet. Lichens strike colorful stripes across the cliff faces. Scientists at Yosemite are interested in lichen because if you examine it it can tell you the level of pollution.
