Making Okonkwo into a real person would result him to being similar to Alfred Jodl. Alfred Jodl was a German general in World War 2 and a staff officer in World War 1. From history records it was said that he planned and conduct most of Germany’s military campaign. No matter what he did, what Alfred Jodl was most known for was being very dedicated and loyal to Adolf Hitler and Germany. Even when he died, he did not admit to any of the crimes committed by him because of this dedication and actually stubbornness. Okonkwo was similar to Alfred in this sense. When Okonkwo noticed that nobody could stop the white men from expanding in power, he preferred to take his own life than submit to them. He knew that he would be miserable if he had let the white men rule him.…

The book of Zeitoun is like none other that I have read before. Through this captivating story, the characters are faced with so many challenges with the coming of Hurricane Katrina, prejudices, and losing everything that you’ve come to know and love. Every day Zeitoun is faced with problems due to being part of a culture that is often looked down upon and discriminated. Three cultural differences that he encountered were getting rejected from clients because of his name, accused of being a terrorist, and his religious beliefs.…

In any time you need to survive, look to these traits; integrity, bravery, and past experience. They will guide to to the best possible outcome for your situation.…
“Everything passes” is a statement that Nayeli’s father Pepe wrote to her (47; ch.7). Was he implying that eventually all the priorities in life aren’t as important as they once were? In the beginning of the novel, Urrea assigned different emotions to each character, and at the end of the novel, each character unfolds. The main characters are trying to go on a journey to the United States to bring back seven men to help save their village. They finish their task, but the outcome expected, isn’t the one the readers received. In Luis Alerto Urrea’s novel Into the Beautiful North, some of the characters in the novel act fearless, while others are beyond scared; the differences in each character are inspiring to readers.…

In the graphic novel Maus, by Art Spiegelman, it can be argued that Vladek’s personality could be a result of his childhood and of his grueling experience of living through the Holocaust. Throughout the novel we often see Art Spiegelman pondering the question of why his father acts the way he does. When we go through situations in life in which we must see things that are disturbing, we tend to change our perspective on the world. This relates back to Vladeks character and the way he changed throughout the novel. Vladek's experiences with the Holocaust psychologically scarred him forever, these experiences have made him non-trusting, cheap, and selfish.…
