Zigbee: An Intelligent Living Environment
Abstract:
The world is moving towards the globalization and things are becoming smarter day by day. Human efforts are been replaced by machines. The smart home architecture (An Intelligent Living environment), ZigBee is making it possible through monitoring the Home appliances with chip embedded systems and Internet. ZigBee is suitable for controlling smart homes because of its simplicity, less power consumption, less cost and wider coverage. When Bluetooth and Wi-Fi was considered unsuitable for many applications in area of their limited network size, low battery life and small transmission range, ZigBee was introduced and later on standardized by IEEE. ZigBee is used for controlling and monitoring. ZigBee is a short range, small data rate, less power consumption and simpler Wireless Sensor technology. In Wireless Sensor Network low power consumption and longer battery life is biggest issue and ZigBee is solution of this issue. ZigBee was introduced after inefficiency of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in some areas. In all Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN), ZigBee was built on IEEE 802.15.4 standard.
