Zodiac Killer and True Story
The Zodiac Killer

The only kind of scary/suspense films I enjoy are those that are a true story. A

movie that will make me look further into it then just watching the film. Something

that will have my mind going and even doing my own research on. I’ve seen plenty

of scary/suspense films that are a true story but out of all them my favorite is The

Zodiac Killer. This movie met all my expectations on a true story of a serial killer.

The movie went straight to the point, he was never caught, and the case is still

open to this day in certain parts of California.

When Im watching a scary movie I want it to start off with a murder or a scary

scene. I don’t want to be watching it for 30 minutes and then hear the first victim

screaming for help. As soon as the movie started about 5 minutes in it the Zodiac

Killer kills his first victim. Of course there has been other true story serial killer

movies that started off the same way but what’s so different about The Zodiac Killer

is after he kills someone he calls 911 explaining what happen an then says Im the

one that did it. My attention was immediately caught when I saw that he did that.

Who in the world calls the cops after killing someone and says I did it? I couldn’t

help but to continue watching the movie.

The events on the Zodiac Killer case date back to July 4, 1969 in San Francisco. The

first couple he killed happened at night time. A boy and a girl were just minding

their business at a park in their car until a car pulled up behind them. The Zodiac

walks out of his car with his face covered with no word and shoots the boy and girl

to death while in their car. About 15 minutes in the movie after that he tries to kill

another couple this time during the day at another park. The Zodiac killer is wearing

all black and a mask. He ties

The Zodiac was a serial killer known best for his mysterious letters. Though the case remains unsolved today some of his messages were deciphered as the years passed. The letters revealed details about not only his past murders but also clues to where he would strike next. Every letter was written with a mixture of English and cipher earning the mysterious killer the title of the Zodiac. The first Zodiac letters were received by the San Francisco Examiner, San Francisco Chronicle and Vallejo Times-Herald which directed each newspaper to publish the letters on the front page or else twelve people would be killed randomly over the weekend. Police tried to unscramble the letters…

Now let's get something straight, when I say I like serial killers it doesn’t mean I have an obsession with John Wayne Gacy, or a shrine for The Zodiac Killer. It does not mean that I see Aileen Wuornos as a role model. It means the way they think interests me like no other. The psychology behind it. How could someone torture and kill another living, breathing human being? What's the difference between…

It has been suggested recently by Gary Stewart, who even wrote a book on the matter, that his biological father was the Zodiac Killer. Though Gary’s father, Earl Van Best Jr., greatly resembles the police composite sketch of the famous killer, he does not match the large, heavyset body type described by the victims (Bergara). Other than his close resemblance, there is not any substantial evidence pointing to him as the killer. Another prime suspect in this case, named Lawrence “Kane” Kaye, has a good bit more evidence than that of the case for Earl Van Best Jr. He is said to have lived near some of the victims and crime scenes, and even worked with one of the victims. Kane had also sustained a brain injury in a car accident in 1962 and his psychologist said that he was “losing the ability to control self-gratification” (Bergara). Later, Kathleen Johns, who claims to have gotten a ride with the Zodiac Killer before managing to escape once he told her he was going to kill her and her child, identified Kane as the culprit (Bergara). However, many say she is not a particularly credible source due to the different versions she has told in the years following the incident (Montaldo). Though a compelling argument, this theory also fails…

Graysmith jumps back and forth in the chronology of this decades-long murder case. The number of players involved including the suspects, police, witnesses, Zodiac's victims and possibile victims, journalists, relatives and friends gave the novel a dynamic structure with various points of view and left space for individual interpretation. Although Arthur Leigh Allae was Graysmith’s prime suspect, Graysmith did not always feel that way. The initial focal suspect of the Zodiac killings was Rick Marshall due to the point that his handwriting had assured resemblances to the handwriting of the Zodiac murderer (Graysmith 2002). Over time though, Graysmith’s point of view firmly changed.…

Carroll Cole was born May 9th, 1938 in Sioux City, Iowa. A scant nine years later, the first of his 16 confirmed victims would be killed. There have been many serial killers over the course of history to examine, but Carroll had two unique aspects that made me want to write about him specifically: he was one of the youngest serial killers ever (based on the date of his first kill), and he is a prolific example of how grandly the legal system can fail not only society, but a single individual.…

Who was the deadliest killer of the late twentieth century? The Zodiac Killer operated in northern California during the late twentieth century, killing at least five known victims. The killer was able to send letters to newspapers without being caught. Many were suspected to be the famous Zodiac Killer, but nobody has ever been identified to be one of the most well-known killers of all time. Even though many people believe that the Zodiac Killer was someone such as Richard Gaikowski, Ted Kaczynski, or a multitude of other suspects, there is evidence proving that Arthur Leigh Allen was the Zodiac killer, based on his actions and similarities to the patterns of the killer.…

Lucas Kelleher/ Street Law 10/3/08 The Zodiac Killer The Zodiac Killer is a serial killer who operated in Northern California in the late 1960s. His identity to this day still remains unknown. The Zodiac coined his name in a series of taunting letters he sent to the press. His letters included four cryptograms (or ciphers), three of which have yet to be solved. The Zodiac murdered five known victims in Benicia, Vallejo, Lake Berryessa, and San Francisco between December 1968 and October 1969. Four men and three women between the ages of 16 and 29 were targeted. Others have also been suspected to be Zodiac victims, but they have been ruled inconclusive. The lack of consensus about the number of victims, the inability of law enforcement to crack the ciphers, and the fact that several people have inconclusively been portrayed as "persons of interest" or possible suspects, has elicited this case's designation as a perfect crime. On August 1, 1969, three letters prepared by Zodiac were received at the Vallejo Times-Herald, the San Francisco Chronicle, and the San Francisco Examiner. The nearly identical letters took credit for the shootings at Lake Herman Road and Blue Rock Springs. Each letter also included one-third of a 408-symbol cryptogram which the killer claimed contained his identity. Zodiac demanded they be printed on each paper's front page or he would "cruse [sic] around all weekend killing lone people in the night then move on to kill again, until I end up with a dozen people over the weekend." The Chronicle published its third of the cryptogram on page four of the next day's edition. An article printed alongside the code quoted Vallejo Police Chief Jack E. Stiltz as saying "We're not satisfied that the letter was written by the murderer" and requested the writer send a second letter with more facts to prove his identity. The threatened murders did not happen, and all three parts were eventually published. On October 14, 1969, the Chronicle received yet…
