Gary Ridgway: A Serial Killer
Personally, I think Gary would rank as a “Torturing Murderer” because though psychotic, he did not typically prolong their torture. Yes, he watched them as they suffocated and defiled their bodies but he did not necessarily torture the victims.
He was troubled by his sexual attraction to his mother and of his feelings of lust and humiliation. He's one of the serial killers who showed the famous childhood triad of bed-wetting, fire-setting, and animal torture that almost always equates to murderers. He began killing off prostitutes in earnest after the third divorce in 1982, subjecting some to bondage or necrophilia.

Thankfully, it is the end of the longest running serial killer investigation in U.S. history; the break in the case was connecting the DNA taken when Gary Ridgway was arrested for the relatively minor offence of ‘loitering for the purposes of soliciting prostitution’. It was this sample that caught him, where he was soon arrested in the autumn of 2001 for soliciting prostitution. His saliva sample matched with that of the semen found in the victims of the Green River killer and his employment records were checked revealing a correlation between his absences and victims going missing.
