The New Year came around and I, yet again, resolved to go back on a diet. I swore in front of family and friends to get real results. This time. I'm willing to bet so many of you did exactly the same thing. It's now Week Three of my new diet and I'm wondering...why do we do this? Why do we beat ourselves up every year to lose weight? Why do we sit silently in despair and watch our thin friend eat that piece of chocolate cake we've drooled over for the past five hours? Why do we suffer, especially when we know the diet will die a slow and unspectacular death in a few short weeks? Why do we set ourselves up for the pitying, yet smug, looks we'll receive from our thinner coworkers, friends and family when they realize we've stumble in yet another …show more content…
Followers of fad diet and low carbohydrates diet are good friends of low calorie meals such as: Tuna Salad with Low Fat Dressing. While"Pork with Tomato Sauce" sounds like an unforgivable sin for other diet followers, that's not the case with Zone Diet followers. Developed by Dr. Barry Sears, zone diet was a big hit upon its early release. The diet followers were celebrities who made this diet looked appealing to the dieters. Quickly a lot of foods deliveries snapped up this opportunity and began providing zone diet meals delivery service which was priced rather expensive compared to the usual dieter's meals. Zone diet principle is placed on controlled consumption of carbohydrates, fat and protein which should be centered on the right 'zone' (40: 30: 30). Carbohydrate produces insulin which tells body to store the excess carbohydrates into fat. While protein produce glucagons that urges the body to use the excess carbohydrates stored in your body. So by eating a balanced zone of 40:30 carbohydrates and protein your body will have balanced insulin and glucagons which in turn will make you lose fat. The author said that eating fat actually does not make you fat while eating excessive carbohydrates does. This is probably the reason of having such lot of delicious meals names for zone diet. In other diet methods, eating fat is one of the most avoided things. That's resulting in "low fat" diet meals names as favorites for other diet followers. However zone diet still urges that its followers eat unsaturated fats rather than saturated fats commonly found in fast food. Zone diet also does not severely restricted meals choices for its followers. The author said that a lot of diets failed because the lack of meals choices available. Since it's the ratio that matters, a lot of varieties of zone diet meals emerged. So it's no wonder that a lot of meals in zone diet really sound

    Eating no junk food seems to make sense when you are trying to lose weight, but it can also cause a different type of diet destruction for you. Although banishing junk food from your daily consumption is a healthy option and will make for faster weight loss results, it may not affect you in the ways you’re expecting. Many people start a diet such as this to lose weight, but it doesn’t last long; the biggest reason is that the dieter has nothing to look forward to throughout the weight loss process. If you are working out and feel the need to eat some type of junk food, then do so with portion control. A great time to reward yourself is when you reach a new limit and feel proud of yourself for doing so, such as staying on the treadmill an extra two minutes or doing ten more crunches than you used to be able to do. Small goals and guilty pleasures will make weight loss seem like less of a chore. Dieters will be less inclined to give up on the diet if they focus on the smaller steps of the process. Instead of debating how they are going to lose twenty pounds before next summer, people will be focusing on what they have to do to eat that cookie on Saturday.     The main issue with people who are looking to lose weight is that everyone wants that quick fix. They don’t want to do the hard work of completely altering their lifestyle in order to get fit and obtain a healthy weight but rather want something to do that for them without having to exercise or change the way they eat. The problem with that is that there is no quick fix that is permanent. Sure there are plenty of “diets” or meal plans out there such as South Beach, Weight Watchers, Advocare, Herbalife, and the list goes on and on, but they don’t always keep the weight off and often focus on losing weight but not how to then maintain the weight lost. They’re low in calories often and typically eliminate one specific thing rather than using smaller portions which is what is most effective. What’s difficult about restrictive diets is that it can hurt more than help. It can slow down your metabolism and many people are often misinformed on this and become confused when even though they’re eating less they’re still gaining or not losing any weight. Another issue with a quick fix is that of a more dramatic choice such as bariatric surgery. Although I do believe it can be life-saving as it brings down high blood pressure and can significantly help with diabetes, it is surgery and has its risks. There is a risk of 1 in 300 for death not to mention the many side effects that someone could go through during recovery. Also, there are people who get this procedure done and don’t make the lifestyle changes needed such as exercising and a healthier diet which causes them to gain the weight back. Exercise is a tool that should be used by people of all ages, weight, and goals to stay healthy. At least 150 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic activity should happen a week and at least twice a week some form of muscle strengthening exercise should be done.
