A Fantastic fear of Everything (2012) by Crispian Mills and Chris Hopewell, follows Jack (Simon Pegg) a children’s author turned crime novelist who becomes obsessed with murder, and begins to fear being murdered himself. When Jack realizes his fear of being murdered stems from his abandonment by his mother at a Laundromat he decides to confront his fear, but when he gets to the Laundromat he comes face to face with a want-‐to-‐be murder. For this film I decided to focus on the importance of shapes. While watching the film I notices that circles and rectangles play an important role in the sub text of the narrative.
The opening credits of the film start with a wide shot of big ben at night, then we go through a montage of murders thoroughout London finally ending on an extreme close up of Jack’s eye, this sets the stage for part of the image system throughout the rest of the film, Circles represent fear.
