A humorous and nostalgic encounter as it drives me down the memory lane where life was simple and there was enough space for small errors of the young and the eccentric old.
SCENE 1:The warm environs of a big joint family, a jamghat of relatives piled one on top of another, in a miniscule of space which we proudly proclaimed as our living room. The focus ,now ,on the head of this family, my grandmother, whom we fondly addressed as biji, seated on her royalty chair, deewan, and pompously welcoming her daughter ,my aunt, from abroad accompanied by her two modern cyber kids Atul and Seema. These kids were born and brought up in the faraway lands of amreeka with absolutely no knowledge of hindi or Punjabi which was effervescently spoken in our household .
SCENE 2:My aunt retires for an afternoon nap leaving the two heterogenous worlds of our revered Biji and her kids together to bridge the gap and explore more of each other. The radiance of love reflected on Biji face and echoed in the joy she felt in her heart as she tried to cement the bond and merrily engaged herself in the game of saap-seedhi with her grand children.Motivated by her love, she intentionally gets bitten by the snakes of the game and humbly rejoices in the kids progression atop the ladder of victory. The words of exclamation and squeals of delight ,which she cud not decipher, were a joy to her heart and music to her ears.A bond in the making indeed!!
SCENE 3:After getting evicted from the game Biji proceeds to relax on her deewan leaving seema and atul to their prattling .Sitting In idle passivity and marvelling at the noise and merriment of her grandchildren, as she begins to peel a BANANA to get at the goodness inside, she is suddenly jolted by atul’s loud cry!!On careful prodding atul reveals that he wanted to eat a BANANA.(Here i would like to remind u that my granny was not well versed in English.she equated banana
