A Journey to Spain
A Journey To The Kingdom of Spain
In the summer of 2010 when final exams were over and the holiday had just started, my friends and I planned a ten-day-trip to Spain, which we were all excited about. A dream was finally fulfilled after having such a wonderful trip; however, we also encountered some terrible and scary phases. This adventure was the most memorable, for me, and one which we all learned from. I think everyone could learn from our bad experiences to prevent experiencing what we faced during this trip.
First of all, I was the one who decided that we should go to Spain in the first place. I had taken a history class about The Kingdom of Spain, and how most of the historical landmarks stand till the present time. After a couple of history classes, I became addicted to learning more about Spain. Eventually, I convinced my friends to agree on taking this trip and assured them that they would definitely love it there as much as I would. It took a lot of time for us to plan our visit there; for example, we had to figure out how long we were going to stay and what exactly we were going to do. After two weeks of planning the whole trip we were all ready to take the next step and were very excited for this adventure.
On the 4th of June we arrived in Madrid, it was already after midnight so we could not really do anything at that time. We called a taxi to take us to the apartment that we rented online, and as soon as we got there we checked-in and fell asleep right away. This trip was only for 10 days so we had to make the best of it and not waste any time. The next day, the first thing I did was ask my friends to go buy some groceries such as, bottles of water, cheese and bread, and some snacks to eat if we ever stayed at the apartment. Later on, we called a taxi that took us to Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, which is one of the biggest and most beautiful soccer fields in the world. We spent an hour and a half there. Then, we went to a club where they provided dinner

In the 1400s, present-day Spain was not how it is today. The land was divided into three kingdoms: Castile, Aragon and Portugal. The region had a variety of religions and different cultures such as Islam and Christianity, along with Catholicism. (Walbert) This time period was when the Reconquista occurred, also known as Spain’s Golden Age. Isabella and Ferdinand played a major role in the Reconquista. They transformed most of what is now present day Spain and they spread the Catholic religion throughout Europe.…

The Dominican Republic, known for its beautiful beaches and balmy weather, was the last place I ever imagined I would find myself in this past summer vacation. On this week long trip, it wasn't for the warm ocean waves or the traditional Dominican cuisine I was called to, I was called to serve the beautiful Dominican people. On the third day of the trip, instead of heading out to the worksite where we had been pouring the concrete footers of a plastics and water filter factory, I opted to travel with a group to the childrens' cancer ward in Santiago and visit the patients. We started out our visit by performing a few dances we had taught our vacation bible school and handing out fun little gift we had brought with us. We played ball with some…

The Reconquista of Spain was a war that lasted for about ten years (1482-1492 C.E). This war was mainly fought with cannons, now a common sight, if made with bronze from the northern Vikings or later, a higher quality material from Spanish silver. This battle was based on the Muslims and Christians fighting over political and religious power, as the Ottomans consolidated their power in the Balkan states, and would cause problems to the other Iberian ships that were crucial to military and trade pursuits. The embassy of Granada (who were mainly Muslims) sent a group to make a threat to the Christians so they could keep practicing their faith, and surprise, it worked, but only for a while. Most of the Jewish populace left to strengthen craft…

Spain! Such a beautiful place to visit. However, many people are unfamiliar with the ancient ruins it consists of. Romans invested in and helped build many structures in Spain. Many of them are still standing today. Spain is a wonderful country to visit in order to see many ancient ruins because it has many ancient structures in many different places, many different influences of longstanding cultures, and the national monument that has been standing for more than 1,100 years. “When you take the time to learn about some of the ruins, you will understand why it is a good idea to include them in any visits to Spain.”-by Ryan Howland.…

Crusading ideas had a profound impact on peninsular life. After the eleventh century, northern influences such as crusading ideology permeated Spain in many ways. The notion of crusading fueled nationalist fervor as generations were taught that their ancestors had waged a crusade against threatening Muslims, leading the crusading ideology of the reconquest to be transferred to the experiences of the New World. Because of the international character of the reconquest and the involvement of the papacy and subsequent use of indulgences, the reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula can be rightfully classified as a crusade.…

Going to Europe has always been a dream of mine and when the opportunity presented itself to go with my Spanish teacher, I was the first to sign up. I admit, I had an unforgettable time, but it wasnt always fun and games. Leaving the United States was more than a European cross country trip with my buddies. It was the thought of experiencing a completely different culture from my own, making new friends, and leaving the comfort of my parents protection. I never thought it would all lead to self-discovery.…

In May 2015, I took a leap of faith and did something that I thought I would never do it in the first quarter of my life. I was grateful that this happened and changed the way I think life is, making me more independent. Since young, it was my dream to travel to Europe and bask in the unique culture with a long history. Exactly a year later, my dream finally came true. I was about to travel to my dreamland and what’s more? This was my first time flying across to another continent without my parents. All I have with me was my clumsy and self-proclaimed unlucky cousin.…

Adventures, Experiences, and mistakes; all crucial things that shape and mold our lives. From thrilling zip lining to relaxing hot springs all of us were always together. Costa Rica was definitely a memory that will never be forgotten. Together as team we all bonded so well with not only each other but also the coaching staff, trainer, yourself, and the parents. It was a bit of a drag during the trip traveling three to four hours as well as waking up at eight every morning. Looking back at it now we really accomplished more things than the ordinary person would on a vacation/ soccer tour. Not only did we play a series of games but also we traveled to some of the most beautiful historical places of the country. The trip was in a way split up into two sections. The first week we played two games and were on the coast of the country. The next week we traveled more inland to a more tropical and beautiful view where we played two more games, one of those being against a very popular team in Costa Rica. Everyday we grew further and further away from segregation. Its not that no one likes each other it is just for the most part the same people usually hangout with the same people, which is pretty normal. But as time went on things began to mesh and there would be different people hanging out with different people. They announced our rooming pairs as we sat in the coach’s office the night of the flight. “Christian, Bryce, Leon”, Krumpe said, “Oh shit”, I thought to my self. Christian was never going to shut up the whole trip about how he hooked up with this girl and that girl. Bryce just looked at me and shook his head with similar thoughts going through his head. We then grabbed our luggage and took off to the airport for our red eye flight to El Salvador. During our layover before going to Guanacaste, Costa Rica, we all took the opportunity of getting some rest and sleeping till then.…

It was an unpredictable weather in the summer of 2011, with a mixture of vague feeling of excitement and edginess. I was excited since not only will our relatives and I celebrate our family reunion by having a five-day Luzon trip last April, but also will it be the first time that I would meet my cousins visiting from Florida, Unites States. Edgy, confused, and a bit worried are somewhat my mood due to a simple fact that I have not been practicing my English. Both initially feeling troubled and enthused, these had been unnecessary by the end of the trip since I have pondered many things from that long week of fun and adventure. Our Luzon trip, reuniting the family, therefore, was meaningful not only because it became a very exuberant and a good bonding occasion, but it was also because of the many things I’ve learned from them and from myself.…

Last January 29-30, 2013, I had my retreat at Casa Mamre in Merida, Leyte. I treated it as a mini or short vacation from my busy and stressful everyday school life. Well, that was my initial take on my retreat day until I finally came to the realizations the recollection had offered me during my time there. It wasn’t just a vacation. It was a time for me to be able to take a break from my usual life and take a step back to take a look at where I am at the moment and where I want to be in the future.…
