Dear Senator Hite:
My name is Anna Martin and I reside at 402 W College Ave Unit 2360 in Ada, Ohio. I am currently a second year pharmacy student attending Ohio Northern University. I am writing in regards to urge your support of Senate Bill 240.
Introduced as Senate Bill 240 in the 130th General Assembly, this bill discusses pharmacist consult agreements. I am writing to encourage your support of this when reintroduced, as it will be very beneficial in patient care. Under a consult agreement with a physician by current law, a pharmacist is authorized to manage a patient’s drug therapy under specified conditions. This bill alters what may be included in a pharmacist’s practice under the agreement by authorizing them with the ability to modify prescription drugs. This authority would have to be in terms of the agreement and rules adopted by the State Board of Pharmacy, which means the ability to modify medications would be monitored and regulated. The passing of this bill will allow pharmacists to provide patients with a higher quality of care. Growing up in a family of pharmacists and spending time in a pharmacy, I can see that the pharmacist consult agreement would be a huge benefit to both patients and pharmacists. Instead of patients having to go to the doctor to get refills on medications they have been taking for years, as long as it falls in the agreement, pharmacists could refill those prescriptions, saving all parties involved time and frustration.
I appreciate your help. I ask that you please send me a response letting me know if you are able to support this bill. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or comments regarding the pharmacist consult agreements.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Alex Brown
