In the 1920s, the creation of technological advancements was the most exciting development for that time. There were many types of new advances that help life be easier and stress free. Things such as electric refrigerators and vacuum cleaners helped with the housework.
Telephones allowed Canadians to communicate through long distance. Also, the creation of radio and movies enriched people’s entertainment life. The development of technology in the 1920s had a huge impact on Canadians’ lifestyles.
The introduction of new electric household items made the housework much easier for
Canadians. For instance, electric refrigerators became very popular in the 1920s. The refrigerator allowed perishable foods to be stored longer. Ice cream, frozen dessert and cold drinks could be stored longer too. Electric refrigerators saved people’s money and time because people made purchases on food less frequently. Another new consumer item was electric stove. Electric stoves were multifunctional. They had features like a storage compartment, a food warmer, a housed metal rack and a drip pan. Also electric stoves did not give off smoke or filthy consuming, so it was very hygienic. Another advantage of electric stoves was that they were less time consuming, allowing people to have more time to do other things. In addition, the creation of the electric vacuum cleaner also gave housewives a lot of convenience. They could use a machine to clean

up the dust rather than to take the carpet outside to beat once a year. Canadians enjoyed buying and using electric household items a lot by the mid 1920s. They gained satisfaction by using electricity. Therefore, Canadians were considering doing housework a more easy and enjoyable process, with the contribution of new electrical machines.
