“A Word Is Only a Word”
The word friend means exactly what it is, just a word. The pure substance behind the word no longer bares any true meaning and feeling behind it. I have learned to limit the use of the word and can only call a select few a true friend. Growing up I thought I was popular because I had so many friends. However little did I know that instead of calling these people friends, I should have substituted the word for acquaintances, or in the future outlook of it all, maybe even enemies. A friend is supposed to be there for you through thick and thin. Friends stick by your side no matter what and have your best interest in hand. There for, these people I considered friends, were not my friends, but bad influences. As I child I grew up in Bexley, Ohio, a small extremely wealthy Jewish community. The people there were completely spoiled and never failed to show it. The raised their kids to be brats and show no appreciation for the people around them or the things they were blessed with. With money, there’s always an unspoken world between them. Drugs and alcohol influenced and took over these kids and showed no shame in it what so ever. The children living here were introduced to it as early as 6th grade and by the time they hit high school, some had already hit rock bottom. The parents of Bexley were oblivious to their children’s actions or were just too full of pride to acknowledge or take action in their actions. Growing up here I was influenced as well. My family was never as wealthy as some of the other families and even though we lived comfortably, my mother never allowed me to get out of hand. My friends or should I say acquaintances were a whole other story. I was very sheltered growing up and it wasn’t until I hit middle school was it that I started making more friends and becoming part of the in crowd. They were constantly partying, drinking and as we got older
