Definition
1 Abusive supervisions means the employees’ view that their supervisor engages in unrelenting hostile verbal and nonverbal behaviors, excluding physical attacks. It is related to lower satisfaction and commitment, higher work-family and family-work conflict and higher levels of stress-related problems and resulted in low working performance. 2However, the same individual could view a supervisor’s behavior as abusive in one context and as nonabusive in another context, and two subordinates could differ in their evaluations of the same supervisor’s behavior depends on their background. More, several features of abusive relationships contribute to their enduring quality. First, targets of abuse may remain in the relationships because they feel powerless to take corrective action, are economically dependent on the abusers, or fear the unknown associated with separation more than they fear the abuse, and they may remain because the agents often intersperse abusive behavior with normal behavior, in effect intermittently reinforcing the targets’ hope the abuse will end.
