CEBU Educational Tour
( September 16 – 20, 2013)

Introduction

Discussion: Day 1 September 16, 2013 7:30am as we arrived at the Pier of Cebu City. We went to the bus that is waiting for us and also we met our tour guide for the1st 2days of our tour and his name was “Paul” but he told us to call him “kuya paul”, after meeting our guide we immediately went to La Fortuna Hotel to have our breakfast and to take a couple of minutes of rest. By 8:30am we drove to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas as our first tour destionation of the day. We did have a 2 hours of discussion with Ms. Hazel Arante of what is our currency made of, how it is made, the reasons of the features on our currency, and we ask some questions that are not so clear to us. After the discussion they let us go to their little museum and there they showed us the old currencies of our country that are in a tiptop shape. The visit at BSP was a great opportunity to us Business Administration students and we learned more of what our currency is. After the visit at BSP we drove to the streets of the uptown part of the city were before it is a large plantation of mangoes and also that part of the city is where we will have our lunch at the Royal Concourse. The foods found there were so deliciuos and so many to delicasies that can be chosen. After our very nice lunch we went to our fisrt company visit named Maitland-Smith Inc. located at Mactan Economic Zone 1, Lapu-lapu City. It was a company that is owned by an american and so it was a company that same as others, also they keep their product process as close as possible, for this reason they never allowed us to bring some cameras, phones or anything else that could take pictures. The head of office takes us to the process areas where we saw how they made their furnitures that are beautifully made and handmade. They do have 1800+ workers/employees on their company. After the tour around the factory we went to a airconditioned room and the head

I would like to say I know Spanish, after four years of studying in high school and multiple trips to South and Central America, yet it seems every time I leave the States, I find myself in a frantic struggle to process the words I know and figure out the meanings of the ones I do not. Sometimes this simply means missing out on a few insignificant details, other times it can seriously complicate life.…

Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela, a place where tourists come from all over the country to enjoy the sun, the beaches, the islands, and the coral reefs. Puerto La Cruz was a getaway for a lot of people, just some place to go on vacations and have a good time, but for me it was my home. The spring of 2014, by that time every morning when you walk outside your house you can feel the sea breeze and even when it’s cold, you close your eyes and smile, because it warms your heart. Now if I close my eyes, all I can do it’s relive that moment over and over again. The moment when only six words coming from my mom’s mouth felt like a thousand knives in my heart and changed my life forever. “We’re moving to the United States”.…

Last December, before my nephew Elton, winter’s break began, I called my sister to see if her son could spend his winter break with us in Sacramento. With excitement in her voice, she readily agreed to allow Elton to come and promised to tell him when she picked him up after school. A couple of hours later, I was focused typing on my laptop when I was startled by the sound of my phone ringing. I quickly glanced down at the phone to see that it was my sister calling. I was greeting by a high pitched voice saying, “Hello, Tita Joanne?” It was my nephew on the other end of the line. The excitement in his voice was undeniable. Elton continued, “Yes Tita Joanne! I would love to visit you guys on my winter break!”…

Our tour held at Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, our guide discuss to us the rules and regulations of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. Taking photos during the tour is not allowed, loitering, and noise are just some of the reminders that our tour guide told us. As we continue the tour I saw different portrait on the wall, and our tour guide said something about those portraits. Some of the portraits are the New generation money, etc. Our first area that we visited was the Passport Production Area. Were I didn’t expect that Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas also makes certificates and passports. SHEET INSPECTION AREA was our second destinations were we saw many BSP staffs inspect lots of sheets of money. We also went to SIMULTAN AREA were paper money were being cut into its proper shape and size and next to the INTAGLIO AREA, were different security codes are printed in paper money. We also visited to the NUMBERING AREA were the letters and numbers were being design in the money so that it can also be a feature of money. The last area in making paper money was the FINISHING AREA were finalization of the paper money was conducted. After we finished our tour in the areas of making the paper money, we went next to the areas of making the coins. We just passed by to the GOLD REFINERY DISPLAY ROOM were the gold’s are being kept. As we continue walking we arrive to the MELTING/CASTING AREA were gold’s are being melt for the purpose of making Philippine coins. But when we were in that area, we just saw only the machines, no staffs working. Simply no work, because of lack of gold’s. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas had no reserved gold because mining troops doesn’t want to sell gold’s for the BSP for the rate of the tax increases. We go to STAMPING AREA. Our tour in the areas of making coins ended at the BAGGING AREA of the Philippine coins. After having the tour, we purchased souvenirs from the BSP shop. We visited…
