One your baby starts moving around independently window locks become an essential piece of safety equipment. An American study showed more than 5,000 children are killed or severely injured each year after falling from an open window. The study also showed 93% of falls occurred from first and second floor windows. A UK study showed 39% of all children’s accidents are from falling from windows or baloneys. 10 children die from falling each year. Don’t let your child be one of them. So even if the window isn’t far from the ground you still need to make sure to have window locks. Make sure if your window locks are fitted with a key they are kept out of reach of children as they can become a choking hazard.
Stair gates
Stair gates are very important once your child is able move around without your help. A child falling down a flight of stairs can have extremely horrific consequences, brain damage, permanent paralysation, concussion or even death and the list goes on. In the UK alone 35,000 under four years of age fall down a flight of stairs each year! Make sure your child isn’t one of them. Fit a stair gate at the top and bottom of any set of stairs. Make sure it fits correctly and you always lock it behind you.

If you rent your house it is the landlord’s legal responsibility to fit a fire alarm and a carbon monoxide alarm. If you own your home it is extremely important you have one.
