Abstract Any peripheral (piece of computer hardware equipment) used to provide data and control signals to an information processing system such as a computer or other information appliance. Input devices along with output devices makes up the hardware interface between a computer and a scanner or 6DOF (game) controller. This paper however, identifies input devices and their functions as it results in computing. It also varies the definition and the uses off the two most famous input devices. Moreover, this paper examines Deborah Morley and Charles S. Parker (2009) research in relation to Input Devices and their functions (keyboard, pointing Devices). Keywords: peripheral, information processing system, 6DOF
Computer Hardware – Input Devices and their function (Keyboard, Pointing Devices) Numerous studies have been conducted on various facets on Input Devices, focusing on the different types, their function and their features. In computing, an input device is any peripheral (piece of computer hardware equipment) used to provide data and control signals to an information processing system such as a computer or other information appliance. However, input devices along with the output devices makes up the hardware interface between a computer and a scanner or a 6DOF controller. Many input devices can be classified according to its modality of input (e.g. audio, visual); the input is discrete or continuous (mouse position, key presses) and the number of degrees of freedom involved. Keyboard A 'keyboard' is a human interface device which is represented as a layout of buttons. It is considered as the principal input device and permits to enter text information in the form of the figures or symbols. The keyboard can also be used to type the commands directing the computer to perform certain actions. There are three
