CASE STUDY, CYBER BULLYING
INTRODUTION
Cyber-bullying is the use of electronic information and communication devices such as e- mail, text message, pagers and defamatory websites to bully, harass people. It may be a computer crime. Historically, it was not seen as a problem that needed attention (Limber and
Small, 2003), but in the two last decades this view has changed. Nowadays, it is seen as a problem that needs a lot of attention. In those upcoming paragraphs, we will first tell the story of
Tyler Clementi. Then, give some problem that bullying can create, and then how to face bullying. STORY OF T. CLEMENTI
On September 22, Tyler Clementi committed a suicide after his roommate posted a video of him in a sexual encounter with another man online. Clementi, had no idea the record was taking place. When he discovered what had happened, he took away his own life. He jumps in the Hudson River from the George-Washington Bridge. His final saved words on facebook was:
“jumping off the gw bridge. Sorry.” This is an example of the effect that anti-homosexual behavior can have on people. Actually it affects people conscious and behavior.
EFFECT OF BULLYING
Bullying is like an abuse. It may destruct one’s mind. Turn him to another person. It can cause long term emotional damage. In recent studies, about 50% of those surveyed revealed they had thought about committing suicide as a result of bullying. People in those cases find much easier to defame and disparage than to stay alive and affront the problem. Bullying victims are also much more prone to suffer depression and to lose their self esteem. Victims of bullies always report that they feel worse about themselves after being bullied. They can also have difficulties to have friends because of the lost of their confidence. They may have a poor social life. They may also be anxious and more susceptible to illness.
