Euthanasia is defined as the practice of intentionally ending a life in order to relieve pain and suffering. I have done extensive research on some cases involving people with life-threatening and painful condition due to an illness or body restriction. I believe that with certain instances, persons in the right state of mind and their families should be granted Euthanasia. In some of these cases I have seen people who were definitely not in the right state of mind to decide for themselves whether or not they should live but I also have read about some instances where the patients were in the complete right state of mind, meaning they had no psychological or mental health issues that would hinder their normal thought process. Of course if someone was “crazy” you wouldn’t let them make important decisions. But what if someone had a completely reasonable point and there’s no way you could argue it? I feel that why should it be the government or persons who do not have this ailment to make the decision of someone else and their families and what they want for their body? Think about it. How would you feel if someone made a decision for you that had no effect on them whatsoever? You aren’t the one suffering so why should it be YOU that decides?
One argument for this topic could be that it would hurt the family of the patient and they would have to live with that. I completely understand that side. Yes it would be so hard to not have around someone you are used to seeing and talking with but I believe that if this family really looked into the reasoning of the patient, they would agree that they would rather them not suffer constantly and accept it no matter how hard it would be. When I think about this situation I feel that doctors and the government don’t think twice about killing an unborn baby who did nothing wrong, had no say in the matter, and isn’t life threatening to the mother but they think they should have a say in a
