H&M are focusing on sustainability in design and production and investing in organic materials. It began using the raw material from sustainable sources in 2004, which including organic cotton, recycled cotton, and cotton from the better cotton initiative. Their aim is for all cotton in their range to come from more sustainable sources by 2020.
According to the Textile Exchange’s most recent Organic Cotton Market Report 20131, H&M has obtained as No. 1 in its annual business rankings of worldwide organic cotton buyers. The cotton using from organic sources rose from 7.8 percent in 2012 to 10.8 percent last year.
H&M provides different policies to protect the environment. It offers garment recycling in globally and reduces the energy consumption in the suppliers' factories. Regarding to the annual report2, it collected 3,047 tons of used clothing in 2013, and the clothes expected to reuse and recycling. Also, it reduced 14% in electricity use in 2007 to 2013.
