For our Childrenwear project we chose the retailer H&M, after looking at many other retailers including Mothercare and NEXT, we decided H&M were the most exciting with a wide range of childrenswear garments with a mixed variety and they were not expensive.

H&M keep up with current trends well however also stock clothes traditionally blue and pink for boys and girls, and also key shapes within childrenswear. For example, T-Shirts, vests and simple dresses. Their target market is parents who want their children to be comfy yet stylish but not at a high cost. We believe as a group that they manage this well.

The three garments we chose for this project are a simple vest top with a bow detail, a pair of leggings and a skirt with an elasticated waistband. In our technical file we illustrate how we wanted to make the garments, the order of make, a bill of materials, along with samples and images of the final garment produced.

In both‘Harrison Bergeron’, written by Kurt Vonnegut and‘Examination Day’, written by Henry Sleasar an important idea is Totalitarian and Fascistic control. Today’s society can relate with this idea because of the things happening in Syria. But not just through the law but in societies every thought and actions, even if they have a kid, their smartness looks and strength. If you’re pretty we’ll hide your beauty. If you’re strong? Then you get burdens. If you’re smart? Well we’ll give you whacking headaches and make you blind. But if you’re stupid, mentally disabled, physically disabled? Well then you’re perfect.…

There were different fabrics during Medieval times, and it is important in order to classify one from each social class. Wool was the most common fabric that was seen back then for a few reasons. It was easy to dye, it was very durable, and it could resist water. In order to create a rough cloth, the women during that time period wove wool into threads. This was the most common fabric that was used, and it was used by most of the classes. Most people that wore wool had linen underneath touching the skin because linen is much easier on the skin than wool is. The reason that people didn’t wear linen only was because it was not easy to dye. Another very common fabric was canvas, and this fabric was made from flax or hemp seeds. The upper class…

When the Spanish Conquistadores decided to take over The Incan Empire they only had eyes for the gold but not for their unique textile practices. The textiles were used to explain their cultural beliefs. The Incan textile was inherited by pre-Inca cultures. In the time of the Incas a textile production was obtained mainly from the Tahuantinsuyo. Also, the in writings of the observations made by the chroniclers, it can be seen that the dresses Incas had portrayed different elements, especially utilitarian, social, economic and religious. The dresses were one of the elements evaluated within the system of redistribution and reciprocity to the high status people; for example, in the displacements of the Inca, their slaves were distributing to clothes and dresses to the high status people and local groups. Therefore, the State Inca needed to count with a great amount of weaves to satisfy the demand done by the town Inca. In order to fulfill this demand, they…

Nobody immediately considers Sweden as a country well known for its fashion, but its Hennes & Mauritz retailer has profitably dominated the globe, with almost 1,000 stores in 20 countries. It is now Europe's foremost clothing merchant, and at present appears resistant from the anguish confronting other sellers. Even though Europe is the chain's domination, H&M is one of the few fashion retailers to have created a flourishing hold in the US market, with additional outlets by the end of the year, and more planned thereafter.…

H&M is the 21st best global brand in the world and is worth an estimated 15 billion. A great deal of H&M’s success can be attributed to the ability of its in-house designers, and its ability to quickly recognize trends and act before competitors. They are making designs and products that look very much like what other more modish, more chic, more expensive, designers are releasing but for much less. Hennes and Mauritz popularly known as H&M is a pioneering apparel retailer based in Sweden known for its cheap but chic fashion. H&M is one of the world’s largest and fastest growing clothing retailers. The company is also a pioneer of ―fast fashion‖: a term used to describe clothing collections which are based on the most recent fashion trends on the catwalk but which are designed and manufactured quickly, are affordable, and are aimed at mainstream consumers. By maintaining efficiency and flexibility throughout its supply chain, H&M is able to respond quickly to changes in fashion trends. H&M has achieved popularity among consumers because of its fashion know-how and its expertise in anticipating trends. This popularity has enabled the company to grow at a formidable rate—despite overcrowding in the clothing market and, at times, sluggish consumer spending. H&M has a keen understanding of its target market—which is the low price, high fashion end of the clothing sector—and is closely attuned to what mainstream consumers want. It enjoys a strong following among women, particularly those in younger age groups, who make up the majority of its customers. By selling a broad range of fashionable collections, which are renewed frequently, by offering attractive prices, and by maintaining a strong presence in prime shopping locations, H&M has ensured that its stores enjoy a steady flow of customers. H&M’s code of conduct was drawn up in 1997 and is based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the ILO’s conventions on working conditions and employment rights. CODE OF CONDUCT: This Code of Conduct is applicable to all suppliers, their subcontractors and other business partners that do business with H&M or any other company, wholly or partly owned, directly or indirectly, by H&M . H&M’s business concept is to offer fashion and quality at the best price. Quality also means that our products must be manufactured…
