"Authentic Leadership: Rediscovering the Secret to Creating Lasting Value

About Bill George:
He graduated with a BS from the Georgian instate of technology and he received his MBA from Harvard University where he was a Baker Scholar (highest honors). Basically he worked everywhere even in Switzerland. He is now a full time professor at Harvard Business School. He received many honors and awards such as he has been named one of top 25 business leaders of the past 25 years and also executive of the year of 2011 and director of the year 2001. He wrote several books about authentic leadership and leadership development. He is currently focusing on leadership and mentoring next new generation leaders.

In this book he challenged new generations to lead authentically. Authentic leaders demonstrate a passion for their purpose, practice their values consistently, and lead with their hearts as well as their heads. They establish long-term, meaningful relationships and have the self-discipline to get results. They know how they are.
If you have desire to become an authentic leader but you don’t know how, this is the great book for you. Authentic leadership requires a commitment to developing yourself. Like musicians and athletes, you must dedicate yourself to a lifetime of realizing your potential.
George describes authentic leadership as a leadership style that is consistent with a leaders' personality and core values, and that is honest, ethical and practical.
Because of so many leadership failures, many people today are willing to find authentic leaders. Authentic leadership is widely accepted even among academics. More and more students are studying authentic leadership and striving to lead in this way. The new generation of cooperate CEO’s are highly authentic and they are doing an excellent job of leading.

Following and relying on one’s own instincts and judgements to lead others and do what is best for an organization. Luthans and Avolio (2003) as mentioned by Northouse, provided traits that may influence a leader to become an authentic leader; “confidence, hope, optimism and resilience” (p.265).
