I Love You, Beth Cooper
The Banned Book ‘I Love You, Beth Cooper’ should be banned for explicit language and sexual content. Kids should not be reading such explicit books in a public or school library because it is very inappropriate.

The book’s author, Larry Doyle, tells a story about a young boy in love with the most popular girl in school. On graduation night, a lot goes wrong. While Doyle tells his story, he doesn’t leave ANY details out, even the one’s with language. Doyle doesn’t hesitate using swear words such as “Jesus Fuck!” (134) and “Fuck that Kevin” (211). Public and school libraries shouldn’t promote or even have this book in stock. Even though the book contains ‘high school content’, it isn’t appropriate for most high schoolers. Even I felt uncomfortable while reading the book. This book should be banned because we shouldn’t advise any children to read this book, especially if they are not in high school. Students should not be encouraged to read books teaching them the bad things about high school and not informing them about the good things. If kids are younger than 16, they should not be allowed to read this book because kids now a days learn from books, tv , movies and the internet. They will

Knetsch 2 read with Doyle has written and think it is the right way to go, and it isn’t. This is one reason why ‘I Love You, Beth Cooper’ should be banned.

Another major reason why this book should be banned is because of its sexual content. Doyle uses a lot of visualizing when he discusses high school topics like sex. For instance, Doyle uses provoking words and phrases such as “I’ll touch your dick.” (114). Now, obviously high school students know about this sort of topic, but that doesn’t mean it should be encouraged. When teenagers read this book, they might think to themselves ‘Is this the way a highschooler should be acting?’ And they might answer yes. So as you can see, this

The prohibition movement in the United States was very successful during the era of progressive reform, from 1900 to 1919. This is because of the social composition of the prohibitionists, their motives, strategy, and pressure-group tactics, and the relationship of prohibitionism to progressive reform. The prohibitionists attacked saloons with a passion, they appealed to women's rights, and they tried every mean possible to keep their areas ‘dry.'…

Yet this comes to how just how cruel life can be. After finishing this book, I couldn’t stop thinking about it for days. I’m not going to spoil anything, but the dramatic turn of events is empowering. Anyone, upperclassman in high school and older, who has been through traumatic experiences with rape, self harm, or drug overdose should read this book because they could compare their experiences to what the character have gone through. Yet at the same time, it’s crucial to ban it for younger adolescents because I don’t believe they would be mature enough to handle this type of…

The people who chose to ban this book did have a point, that foul language and violence is not good for a young student to read, but the good in this book should cover up the bad. The foul language in this book was strictly two words, and they were nothing that most students in my school wouldn’t know. As along with the violence, there are video games and movies that have much more intense violence in them, and much younger people view…

For me personally, books should not be banned because it is basically censoring someone else's art. Writers or authors have the right to publish whatever they want. They are just books. People should not get all worked up over a piece of literature. Especially schools. Schools across the country in different time periods banned the novel for the reasons being that it is too vulgar, sexual, and violent for kids to read. (“Banned Book: The Catcher in the Rye”)…

Although this novel may offend some parents or kids, others enjoy this novel. If some do not approve they have the option too put it aside and not read it. Adults should not take the fun, adreniline rush, sappiness, etc., away from others. I do think that this novel should be read in High Schools because it shows what it means too be self-sufficient and it also portrays that if you really want soemthing then you have to work for it. This novel is very touching and has a good moral behind it. I think that banning this book is unfair to others. You should be able to read whatever you want, whenever you want. If others are offended they don’t have too read it and cans et it aside and leave it at that. I think that the novel was very interesting, it was also very well written. It made me think about my life more and how well I have it and how much I take it for…

This book was banned due to racial tensions and so called “inappropriate content”. In 1960, school administrators fired an Ohio teacher for assigning the novel to an 11th grade student. The administration claimed the book was anti-white and more predominant white communities fought to have it banned completely. A library banned the novel for a so called violation of codes. The library claimed it had excessive sex scenes, violence ,and extreme foul…

Some parents may think it is not healthy for their child but it’s not their place to decide what is healthy for everyone else’s children. Many children enjoy reading this book and many parents do not see anything wrong with this book. I believe that if a parent believes the book is not something there child should read they shouldn’t ban the book, simply don’t let your child read it. This is a reason I think this book should not be banned.…

One reason this book is banned from many schools is because the plot involves rape. A girl accuses an African American man of taking advantage of her when he didn’t. The Catcher in the Rye. The Scarlet Letter. Huckleberry Finn. Harry Potter. The Diary of Anne Frank. Animal Farm. To Kill a Mockingbird. The Da Vinci Code. The Grapes of Wrath. These literary classics have been vital to the education of many, especially children and adolescents (Banned Books). These great novels both teach important values and educate children about world affairs and classic themes. Unfortunately, each of these novels has been banned at one point in time. In a country where freedom is so adamantly advocated, it is a wonder that an issue like censorship would even come up, that such a controversy would sink its claws into the minds of states’ boards of education across the nation. Censorship is a needless restriction placed on developing minds that need the morals and values that banned books can give.…

The way a person expresses his or her love to another person should not bother other people. In the article “I Just Called to Say I Love you” by Jonathan Franzen he clearly states that he hates hearing other people saying the words I love you to another person. He believes that the privacy of others should be kept to themselves and their personal feelings should not be said out loud in public places. Although this may be true there are also other perspectives of how one can handle situations like of expressing feelings when they occur. Not only is the expression I love you the only way of expressing ones feelings for another but there are many other forms of love that are expressed in public places that really should not matter to others if they are happening. People should have the right to express their feelings without others getting offended or caring at all for that matter.…

    My love for you

I’m going to start off by saying that you, you baby, are my one and only. I honestly do not know where I’d be without you today. You’ve picked me up at my weakest moments, and have accepted me at the worst times. You, and even your family has helped me when I didn’t know which way to turn, and you’ve showed me which paths to go down when you knew I was heading into the wrong direction, and that’s something I am so thankful for. In the beginning, I never, ever would have thought that you’d be the one I would have spent 3 years with, nor would I have thought I’d be thinking about spending the rest of my life with you. I didn’t realize how hard relationships were and how much commitment you have to put into them until we got half way into our relationship, and I’m still learning. We fight, not as much as we used to, but for the most part, we have gotten past saying we are going to breakup over every fight. We learned that we aren’t breaking up, because we are meant for each other. I know you aren’t all about religion, but I’m glad god or whoever did this, led us to each other, because I’d thank them with a big box of……I don’t know, chocolate lol. I’ve left you, plenty of times, and you’ve done the same, but I think we both have experienced other relationships and I honestly think that this is it; this is the time where we both see that no one else is going to compare to our significant other. We may make each other upset, mad, and even want to kill ourselves because of how much we drive each other insane that sometimes we just want to get up and walk away, but the smiles, the laughter, the pictures of old memories, the song lyrics that explain our relationship, in the end, when we grow up, and grow old together, we will look back, and be thankful that we stuck through it all together. I mean, come on, will you still need me; will you still feed me, when I’m 64? Because you always said you would. I don’t want that to be someone else doing that for me…
