One reason why I believe Westfield is good for Newham is that the shopping centre has provided 10,000 direct jobs, in over 3000 retailers including 70 restaurants, cafes and bars and a cinema. 2000 jobs went to a local long term unemployed people. In addition to this a huge amount of indirect jobs have been created. E.g. in the transport companies that make deliveries to the shopping centre. Buses run to the shopping centre which has created more employment. This means that the employees could now provide for themselves and their family and could also afford to go to leisurely places such as holidays, beaches and theme parks e.t.c. They could also afford to pay the rent, mortgage and the bills. Therefore they would not result in being homeless and keep worrying about their family as they are now earning. They could also pay up their debts if they were lent a loan so the money would not keep on increasing due to interest. Also they would have some money left over also known as disposable income.
Another advantage is that the location of Stratford is very good as it is in East London at the junction of the A12 and A118 in the Olympic sit as they have all transport links. Therefore it is easier for residents to travel their quickly. In addition to that Stratford has been made more of a tourist attraction due to Westfield. So more people would want to come to Westfield and see what is so special. Moreover Westfield provides us with a much wider range of shops close by. It also provides us with a restaurant and a cinema, so you can have all your favourite shops in one shopping centre. Therefore you would not have to go to different places hence this can save you paying travel fare. Furthermore if you would want a bite to eat or something to drink Westfield has a variety of restaurants and bars so this could also save you money to travel somewhere else to get something to eat or drink.
A further advantage is that shops and shop workers pay tax to Newham council.
