“Confirmation bias is a beast” (Tyler, 2016). There’s bias in the media, in education, in the environment and in law enforcement. Recognizing bias is inescapable. Bias is when we favor information that agrees with our hypothesis, even if proven wrong. “Confirmation bias contributes to overconfidence in personal beliefs and can maintain or strengthen beliefs in the face of contrary evidence” “Confirmation Bias”, (2017).…

When I was younger, I hated my brother. I hated him so much that I would begin to sob when he simply walked into my room. He was such a bully to me. I remember complaining, and people always telling me that one day we would be best friends. Of course I never believed that for a second… until we started growing up. By my eighth grade year I considered him my best friend. My brother, Jacob, is eighteen months older than me and always seemed to know everything about everything. He was in all the top classes with all the best grades. Not only was he extremely book smart, but he always had the best life advice, whether it had to do with friends, boys, or even parent struggles. I approached him with everything I needed to know about life. He was my confidant. He was the only one I knew who would always be there for me, and always love me no matter what.…

I think that this assessment was rather accurate for me. In most cases I am a very expressive person. I love to dress uniquely and love to have meaningful knowledgeable conversations. It is also very annoying to me to have the same old same old routine. An example of this would be my drive to school, I always take a different route each day just to switch it up. In other instances though, like at my job or if I’m doing some kind of school presentation I do become an Inquisitive person. I pay close attention to detail to make sure I am doing everything that is asked of me. I also like to pick up certain styles from things I see people wear around me.…

Another great trait I chose was Open-Minded because I try to ask people for their ideas/thoughts so that I can compare their ideas with my own to see how they are different and the same. I also think I am Open-Minded because I try new ideas whenever I can and always take into consideration the feelings/thoughts/ideas of others, so that they don’t feel left out or so that they don’t feel a part of the group.…

My family may not always express our love with the simple words of “I love you”, but the actions and the small things they say motivate me to become a better person and to keep working harder. For those who I am not close with who show me love and admiration, it makes me happy knowing that somewhere out there, there is someone who appreciates me for who I am and what I do. Lastly for love with a significant other, this is a love where it hurts and feels the best for most people. People feel happiness, excitement, joy, sadness, pain, burden, and so much more with this type of love. A feeling of betrayal and pain, like in the poem, “She has almost, killed me with, love for that boy”.…

What’s one word that describes you? That’s the question everyone has been asking me lately. Honestly, I have no idea. It’s not something that I can answer in one second, but is something that took me at least a day to finally decide. My family would’ve called me timid ages ago, however, now they would almost call me outgoing. My friends all say I’m comical and whimsical and people I meet when at my job would say I’m one of the most pleasant people they’ve met in a long time. I, myself, believe that one word to describe me is adventurous.…
