Introduction:

Desktop Virtualization for Small & Mid-Sized Business

Staying current with hardware and technology is a challenge for any organization and especially for small and medium sized businesses with limited budgets. The proliferation of PCs has become a burden on IT departments as they work to maintain, update and continually replace outdated PCs. In addition, aging PCs and a mixed bag of software applications running inventory, point of sale, accounting, etc. is a growing challenge with new devices entering into the IT environment. In this day in age, every employee needs access to a computer but the costs associated with supplying everyone with a PC are far out of reach. Business continuity is a top priority for SMB’s but traditional solutions are complex, expensive and require several costly third-party hardware components.Budgets are tight and you’re forced to do more with less.

NComputing's desktop virtualization solutions make it possible for businesses to change the way they allocate their IT budgets and support their end users by delivering a cost effective yet powerful desktop alternative delivering all the security, performance, and manageability required by today's business to remain competitive globally.

NComputing devices are desktop virtualization software that divides your host PC's resources into independent virtual workspaces that give each user their own full PC experience. The X-series PCI card connects your PC to each of the XD2 access devices through a standard Category 5e or shielded Category 6 cable. Each XD2 connects to a user’s keyboard, monitor, mouse and speakers. All these components work together to efficiently harness the excess computing capacity of your PC so multiple users can share it at the same

I believe most of the general populations are aware of how rapidly technology evolves. I will start by giving a little bit of background into my own computer system. I purchased my Desktop computer system in late October 2008. At the time I was set to begin a journey into the world of higher education and needed a computer that could keep up with me. As I did my research into what was on the market that would fit not only my budget, but the needs I believe I needed. I quickly found I was not interested in anything that was on the market in stores, simply because of the fact all the “new” systems were installed with Windows Vista. That left me with only two choices. I could have a system custom built for what I needed and loaded with Windows XP, or I could take a leap and jump into a Mac Desktop. I continued to research and found it would be more efficient to have a computer system custom built to fit my needs.…

Virtualization allows multiple operating system instances to run concurrently on a single computer; it is a means of separating hardware from a single operating system. Each “guest” OS is managed by a Virtual Machine Monitor (VMM), also known as a hypervisor. Because the virtualization system sits between the guest and the hardware, it can control the guests’ use of CPU, memory, and storage, even allowing a guest OS to migrate from one machine to another.…
