He has point that all the school officials are the first responders to the bad situation but they cannot do anything without a gun. Some school districts are allowing the teachers to carry a concealed weapon, where the police station is not close enough for them to respond quickly enough. Schools are just trying to just handle a bad situation until the help arrive. Some of the schools staff said that they would rather attack the intruder rather then let the situation get worse. They forget that if they were to die by the intruders gun, the rest of the people they were suppose to protect are now vulnerable. If a bad situation were to raise the, school staff that is present would be able to control the situation with a gun. The author is trying to support that the teachers should be armed, while he is giving reason why they should not be, like he said that practicing shooting is important, but the school staff might hurt the students they are trying to protect. The schools that are located within one mile of a police station are defenseless for five minutes until the police arrive. Whether or not armed security guards should be in schools has been a debate for years but has really been brought into the limelight since the most recent tragedies of Columbine, Virginia Tech and Sandy Hook. The supporters of having armed security in our school districts believe that it is a needed layer of security and helps to diminish response time if necessary while keeping children, parents and teachers feeling safer to be in school. The ones against having guns in the schools believe that we have had armed guards in schools and it did nothing to stop it. They also believe that the cost is too high while also worrying about their children’s psyche from being around loaded weapons every day. No matter which side you are on, there are great arguments for both sides that are logical as well as emotional and it is everyone’s job to listen to all of the information that is available and make their decision based on what they feel is the best choice. That choice could be one of the most important decisions that they ever make because it could mean the difference between life and death.…

Teachers should not be asked to do the job of a police officer or other trained professional, someone who is specifically trained to use these weapons. A Los Angeles Times article from February 23, 2018 interviewed teachers to find their opinion on the matter. Heidi Lesemann, a former elementary school teacher said, “Even well trained police officers have been known to shoot and kill an innocent person out of panic. What about a “gun-trained” teacher in a chaotic, terrifying, life threatening situation whose goal is to protect his or her students? What are the chances that “training” will enable the teacher to find the target in a school of screaming, fleeing students?”…

Allowing students to carry concealed weapons has become a hot topic over the last several years. Violence on college campuses has been around as long as colleges have, but it took the massacre at Virginia Tech to open people’s eyes to try to fix the problem. Violence may never be eliminated on campuses, but believing that it can be reduced by allowing teachers and students to carry concealed weapons is not the answer. There is a chance that allowing them to carry concealed weapons on college campuses will increase the violence. It would make it a lot tougher for campus law enforcement to do their job effectively. Teachers and students should not be allowed to carry concealed weapons on college campuses because it will create a more chaotic environment, they are not adequately trained to use them, and it takes the focus off of education.…

College: an educational institution or establishment. The safety of educational institutions is what makes it possible for young minds to grow and develop as they prepare to enter into the “real” world. Ever since the massively publicized Columbine High School shooting occurred, it is evident that this safety, and more importantly, the opportunity for the younger generations to work toward a better future, is endangered. When discussing the heated topic of what is best for school safety, many advocate that college students and faculty with gun permits should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon on campus as a source of self-protection in case of emergencies; however, it is important to consider the danger that guns pose on the many lives…
