Concealed Weapons Should Be Allowed In Schools Essay
One of the hot debates in the United States, and recently growing within the topics most discussed is whether professors and students on college campuses should be allowed to bring concealed handguns to school. Concealed carry permits allow keeping a gun in public in a concealed manner, which can either be on the persons being or in a close proximity. There are many different reasons why having a concealed weapon could be beneficial to college campuses nationwide, and why we should be allowed to take our registered guns to school. According to SCC, being able to protect against assault, rape, and any other bodily harm by excessive force should be allowed on and off campus. They point out that it shouldn’t make a difference if it is on a college campus or not, but that a professor should be able to protect himself just as they are allowed to at church or the bank instead of being forced to hope to not be found in the case of an attack unarmed (647). Another main issue that comes up about being legally armed is the training involved in having a concealed carry license. Opposing sides to pro guns on campus say that concealed carry permit holders are required to have actual law enforcement training to acquire the permit. The SCC realises that this is true, however, there is not a reason they should have to go through the whole training because they are not taking on that role. Students, professors, or teachers aid’s that have concealed carry licenses on campus in order to have a license are required to go to a one-day training course on how to stop an immediate threat of death or bodily harm to them. That is the only real training they need because that is the only thing they intend to do with the weapon they have with them
