In recent years, there have been many school shootings. Students and faculty deserve the right to carry a firearm to protect themselves. There have been many occasions when the campus police were not able to protect students and faculty. The second amendment gives the right for Americans to bear arms. However, firearms should not be allowed on college campuses because people will feel unsafe, some individuals do not know how to use a gun, and officers will become confused.
First, individuals will become afraid when attending class. Since we are all different individuals we do not know who dangers. Students will not be able to focus in class knowing someone around them may be armed. They will be afraid to say something wrong an individual who could possibly harm them. This will cause students to be unable to focus in class. When students are full of fear, it may lead to more students to drop out of class. Students have the right to feel safe while attending class.

The campus police will no longer be able to tell who is dangerous. Even though students and faculty will have a background check, it does not guarantee the mental state of each individual. Police officers will not know if an individual in possession of a handgun will snap. As a result, this could cause even more violence within the college campuses. According to Campus law enforcement officials, they are “particularly troubled about our ability of our officers to differentiate between bad actor and persons seeking to defend themselves and others when both have guns drawn” (Barnett). There is no reason to put our law enforcement officers in a situation where they cannot tell who is simply trying to defend and the one who is actually attacking. The confusion of police officers will only add to fatality in campus
