Racism in the Criminal Justice System Essay Example
African Americans suffer from economic, psychological, political and social exploitation at the hands of powerful Whites in this country. As a result of this exploitation, Black people usually are put into situations where the commission of a criminal act is often seen as the most effective resolution to their problems. Most Caucasians, however, will probably never understand the predicament in which most Black find themselves. Stolen from our homeland and then forced to work under the most miserable conditions imaginable. African American not paid any money and kept in slavery of different forms and fashions up to this very day. Black people have been under the constant control of whites since coming into this country. Today, white America’s most effective means of keeping that control is through the criminal justice system. When the civil disobedience occurred in Los Angeles after the first Rodney King verdict, whites started to look a little closer at the injustices perpetrated against Blacks because they didn’t want civil disturbances in other cities across the country. This is when whites began to realize that there might be some racism in society and in the legal system. It is actually odd that after the first Rodney King verdict, so many Whites talked about how we all should honor the legal system even though we did not like the court’s decision. However, after the O.J. verdict came out, Whites across this nation started questioning the legal system. This type of hypocrisy is what leads to more racial prejudice. It is not until African Americans people begin to make noise in this country that we get the attention we have been screaming about for years. Black people have not asked for more than our fair share, but yet Whites have historically deprived of us even a chance to get that fair share.
The unequal treatment of minorities in the criminal justice system begins at the first stage of that system: the investigation of some form of alleged criminal

It’s not a secret that there is still injustice and racism amongst the African American community. Too often I hear and read these type of stories about us protecting ourselves or our loved in return going to jail for it. And a lot of time these type of stories always seems to only consist of us. I wish the system wasn’t rigged, but it is. It is like we have a right to be free, but so many of us get lectured, when we exercise our freedom. The stand your ground laws, hardly if ever have been demonstrated to apply to us, just against us. An Aurora woman facing felony firearm charges for firing warning shots at the gunman who killed her fiancé and father of her two children. “Police in America are sworn to protect the citizens, however the last few years citizens been sickened by highly publicized accounts of public servants brutalizing men—and women—in the communities”. Police Brutality has been an uprising topic in the past years, because of the police having the overpower over many black citizens because of assumption of suspiciousness. Once the police feels threatened, they automatically shoot to protect themselves and then assume they did the right thing. Those who oppose the use of use of torture also claim that the laws of the United States protect those suspected of crimes by regulating police interrogation practices to prevent terrorism. However, the US regulations do not claim that if a police assumes that a person is suspicious of terrorism that they should be shot. Police now take advantage of this rule. The precise meaning for police is, “the civil force of a national or local government, responsible for the prevention and…

As children, we were taught to treat others as we wished to be treated. We were taught to love and value one another, we were taught morals. However, as time passed, a growing hatred consumed us. We as a nation lost our empathy amongst each other and began to dehumanize our own neighbors. We as a whole began to discriminate on the basis of skin color, religion, and race. Racism is an injustice act that has been around for centuries, affecting millions of people all throughout the world, and can still be found in present day. Although I believe this to be true, there is a growing opposition that believes that racism is not an injustice but rather the reality of life. Racism is instilled in people through various influences and as a result, they have shaped…

The authors expose the myth of American meritocracy by informing us of all the ways that we maybe never paid attention to, such as how many black leaders there are in the sports arena’s such as coaches. They also expose the racial realist to the point that everything is not race based. Racial hierarchies are shown in ways that show us that American meritocracy is a myth by where blacks live. If blacks live in white neighborhoods how some would feel uncomfortable, or would even move out of the neighborhood. If racism was a thing of the past then we would no longer need affirmative action. Racism still exists and will forever exist in the world because the history it has of getting here.…

My topic is racial disparity within the criminal justice system. According to “The Sentencing Project” Racial disparity in the criminal justice system exists when the proportion of a racial or ethnic group within the control of the system is greater than the proportion of such groups in the general population .The reason I chose this topic is because I think it is such a undermined problem across the country today. The term racial disparity refers to a difference that might or might not behave anything to do with discrimination. Criminal justice experts tell the difference between legal and extralegal factors to explain racial disparities in criminal justice. Racial disparities is a discrimination,…

Within our country, I see a number of problems we face on a daily basis. An enormous problem we are facing that is becoming out of hand is the issue of racism. In the past few months, there have been quite a few instances of racism being the cause of death. The case that sticks out the most in my opinion is the Charleston church shooting. A white man entered a historically black church and opened fire, killing nine people, one of whom was a pastor. The man who shot those innocent people was a racist individual who had no respect for his fellow Americans, or for his Lord. He walked inside a place of worship to kill people solely because of the color of their skin. That act of hatred in unacceptable under every circumstance. I fully believe in…
