Pet-related problems can be tricky. Despite loving your pet with your all, personal hardships can get in the way and the easiest solution might seem to relinquish your pet to an animal centre. It can be a daunting process but here are some tips for you to find your beloved companion a caring home instead of giving it to an animal control centre.
Step One
Don’t rush the process. Give yourself time to find a suitable home for your pet. It often takes weeks or even months to find the ideal permanent home. Spread the word that you’re giving away your pet and enlist the help of your family members and friends. The people closest to you will be there to help you with your emotional wounds.
Step Two
Increase your pet’s chances of being adopted by having it neutered and vaccinated. A healthy pet and well-groomed pet is an added bonus.
Step Three
Be proactive and take advantage of the social media world (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) Use attractive visuals of your pet and hope that it goes viral. The possibility is endless. A wider circulation opens up more opportunities for it to be adopted.
Step Four
Exercise caution when you advertise in a public domain. Hold the initial meeting process in a public space such as a café if you’re meeting the individual for the first time. Share your expectations for your pet’s new home. Hold several rounds of interviews with different individuals before coming to a conclusion. When you are happy with a candidate, ask them for their identification and contact information. Keep in touch with them during the rehoming process.
Step Five
Spend quality time with your pet before you finally give it up. Animal abandonment is never accepted. In the event that you can’t find a suitable new home, do consider giving up your pet to an animal shelter.
