Road not taken

In the road not taken, a poem about (possibly) an inner journey; I think that the concepts in the poem seem very vague. Because he just mentions that he comes across a forest of some sort, in autumn- He mentions that he comes in a “yellow wood” so that could be imagery for a forest set in the fell season.- and he says that he has to make a decision,, and moves on from there, he doesn’t mention if it’s good or bad. I’d like to think that this poem was not meant to have a definite story given by the writer. I’d like to think that the poem talks about making a choice, in the poem the persona has travelled into a path that goes two separate ways. The path is a metaphor for life, for being conflicted into making choices and from there, moving forward. He says that he doubts he should ever come back, which could mean that he knows he can’t go back on the choices he he makes but from there, flourish. When he says that “I took the road less travelled by, and that has made all the difference”, It could mean that the choices he made, good or bad, will have made an impact on his life, and I quote, it has made all the difference

The Ivory Trail though is more of a Physical Journey then the Road Not Taken and is set in Africa, symbolized by the warm colors shown in the cover, the appearance of the person on the bottom left, the mosque like buildings and the Sphinx. This story is based on a physical journey of a boy, who encounters many journeys as he grows up.

In contrast to The Road Not Taken, where the persona is satisfied with their journey, the look of forlorn in the character suggests that he is terrified of something. Possibly growing up, possibly the things one faces as they grow up. This could also suggest that this character is a young person. Because kid is afraid to grow up. If the character were more of an adult then he probably wouldn’t look as worries as he does

WORDS:
Respite: a short period of rest or relief

The mood of a piece of literature sets the stage for emotions. Clugston states that “tone is the mood or attitude reflected in a literary work”, and that “every writer develops a mood or tone designed to fire up feelings”, (Clugston, 2010). The tone allows the reader to feel happy, excited, questioning, determined, stressful, or many other emotions. The tone in “The Road not Taken” is that of a slow paced man, casual, comfortable, and calm. The man seems to not be in a hurry at all, which re-emphasizes the tone, where it states “long I stood, and looked down one as far as I could. To where it bent in the undergrowth”, (Clugston, 2010). This man stands at the fork of the road for a long time and examines each of the roads. He cannot see the end of each road because the road extends further than his vision will allow, “to where it bent in the undergrowth”, (Clugston, 2010). Venturing on in the poem, the traveler seems to not be worried that the roads are pretty much the same. Both of the roads we equally worn, and…

His pain involves the road not taken; forever he will wonder what that road would have offered, although, he appeases himself with his choice but there is always that absence of mind. “And that has made all the difference” ends the poem, and the reader is able to understand the speakers choice was not an unhappy one. “I took the road less traveled by” further fulfills a sense of appeasement as he finds comfort in his individuality. This can be compared to Cosi also, as Lewis is sort of set back in time in an ever-changing world as he admires ‘old values’ like love. This can be considered the road less taken, and Lewis becomes the speaker of the Road Less Taken as he too begins a life of…

Many people would have made chosen to take the path that has been taken more often, knowing they will be safe and their deeds will go unnoticed. I would have taken the path less traveled by too, but not everyone makes the same choices. This is why there are both bad and good people in the world. Hopefully someday the good will weigh out the bad and all will be equal. The author used poetic devices to make the poem seem more real. Even though choices are already real. In the first line the poet gave am example of assonance. “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood.” The ‘O’ sound is repeated in “roads” and “yellow.” He also gave an example of personification. In the eighth line the text states, “Because it was grassy and wanted wear.” He gave a human characteristic to a non-living thing. He was saying the path wanted wear but only living things like humans, animals and plants can want. The poem as a whole could be considered a metaphor. The poet was comparing the paths in life to the choices one must make. This poem speaks of the actual choices in one’s life, as roads one must choose to take. The roads represent your choices in…

‘The Road Not Taken’ seems to express regret for a path that the persona in the poem ‘could not travel’. The poem has a kind of haunting wistfulness about the transience of time and a sober tone of fatalism is very apparent. The indecisive and contemplative language of the persona of ‘the road’, who tells his story ‘with a sigh’, is ‘sorry’ about his choice in life and expresses regret, and the tone of fatalism is powerfully conveyed through the final stanza. Here, the shocking switch to present tense and the enjambment of the two I’s arrests the rhythm and reflects upon the possibilities of self that could have been. ‘A Leaf-Treader’ also has a tone of wistfulness but an even stronger tone of frustration. The long lines and full rhymes seem to express a sense of weariness with the whole business of collecting leaves, with the repetition of the word ‘treading’ highlighting the monotony of his task. Compounds like ‘autumn-tired’ with their attenuated rhythm, also seem to express a sense of anger at the way things are and the strong language of ‘God knows’ is significant in the persona’s call for for justification of the need for repeated effort in life. There is a paradoxical fear from the persona about the drive to mast his job but also the limitless nature of his task.…

The theme of “The Road Not Taken” is to get out of one’s comfort zone and try new things. Theme is the message or meaning that the author is trying to convey to the reader. “I took the one less traveled by / and that has made all the difference” (19,20) is basically saying that if the traveler would have stayed inside his comfort zone he would have missed out on some major life experiences. He made this decision when he said, “Then I took the other” (6). This basically sums up the entire poem. The traveler is used to taking the same path on his way. One day after careful consideration he decides to shake things up and take a new rout. The theme of this poem is vital to its literary merit. This is the same as every poem. Without a theme the poem really does not have any sort of value to society.…

In conclusion, I believe “The Road Not Taken” is about making decisions in life and that sometimes it is better to choose the road that is less traveled. I believe that “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” is about enjoying where you are at the moment and enjoying the peaceful surroundings that are around us all of the time, even when we do have other places to go and things to do. Take time to enjoy the moment.…

The title of this poem, "The Road Not Taken," implies a strong feeling of regret. I do not believe that was Robert Frost's intentions. I believe that this poem make a strong statement supporting the right choice. Frost does recognize that making the correct choice could be difficult. The road the traveler chooses may not be the easiest, however it is the may be most rewarding.…

The Road Not Taken gives the reader the opportunity to look at two paths that are presented before a traveler. Each one very different from the other. It symbolizes the choices that we have to make because there is always an easier way to take, but is it worth it? The author does a great job in making both seem appealing. Line two of the poem says, “And Sorry I could not travel both,” (Frost p. 555) meaning that the decision that is made is final, there is no turning back. The traveler is faced with a conflict where he must decided which path to take.…

Adventures are the most dangerous types of journeys known to man. On adventures, a hero is usually risking his or her life for something greater than themselves. But If the Hero doesn’t learn anything than the adventure becomes the worst type of journeys. When a hero is on a voyage they are supposed to learn something new to prevent or fix a problem. A journey is pointless if a person doesn’t learn anything new or doesn’t get affected by the experience. Journeys matter more than the destination when the journey transform the traveler more than the destination.…

“The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost is a poem with an obvious literal meaning. A man comes to a fork in the road and has to make a decision on which way to go to continue his journey. After a lot of thought, the traveler chooses the road “less traveled by.” I interpreted this to mean that he took the more complex path or journey and avoided the simpler road. My thesis sentence for this poem would be “ In life all people are faced with choices, some more complex then others. Many choose the easy way out, while others choose the…

In the poem, “The Road Not Taken,” the speaker is confronted by difficult decisions. First, his trails begin when he reaches “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood” and says “sorry I could not travel both” (Frost 1-2). These two roads represent the choices the speaker is faced with. He wishes he had not come to this fork in the road because it forces him to choose a certain way. After, he gives this decision a lot of though and says, “[I] looked down one as far as I could...[and] shall be telling this with a sigh” (4, 16). He is trying to see how far each path will take him, but it is impossible for him to know for sure. It is extremely difficult for him to make a decision because him will forever wonder about what could have been. The speaker will end up sighing about his choice either way. However, some decisions can be even more difficult and perplexing.…

In life, we have to make many hard decisions and there are times when we just have to trust ourselves to make the right ones. The hardest part is learning to live with the choices we’ve made and not regret them. Robert Frost is greatly known for portraying life lessons and realistic descriptions through his poetry. In his well-known poem “The Road Not Taken” he writes about an experience that all humans go through at some point in their lives. The poet helps us to better understand this message by his use of tone and literary devices throughout the poem.…

“The Road Not Taken” has the theme of making decisions that are right for you individually not everybody else, because that will determine your future. While first reading the title of the poem, one cannot understand whether the road not taken refers to the road the narrator did not take, or the road other people have not taken. Once the poem is read, one can comprehend the actual meaning of the title and the poem itself. When Frost says “…and having perhaps the better claim, because it was grassy and wanted wear…” he is saying that not as many people have taken this pathway and that more people ought to use it. Later on he emphasizes that the roads worn about the same (Parini). In choosing the other path, he believes that the second one is less worn (Faggen). A very important line in the poem is “…Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by and that has made all the difference.” This line is significant because it is the ending of the poem and it explains that since the speaker took this path, it has changed his or her life. The selections that we…
