Allowing a judge to decide the weight of different factors in a case is defeating of the point of the jury. The jury is there to act as an unbiased, fair, and reasonable representation of society. It is my final opinion that it is the responsibility of the jury, and not the judge, to determine the weight of evidence, guilt, innocence, or whether the death penalty should be instated for a specific…

As a support staff, I am obliged to share the same values as the whole school and to help children to develop and to manage their behaviour. I should create, with other members of school, a climate of safety and security, and having good relationships with pupils. Therefore, it would be essential to know school rules and behaviour management policy. Having known all the prizes and sanctions, I could apply them accordingly to procedures, remembering that they should be applied shortly after a good or bad behaviour occurred.…

Generally, the America public doesn't know what factors go into a judge’s decision when sentencing offenders. Keep in mind, judges have life experiences before becoming a judge such as how they were raised as an individual. Furthermore, they could have had experience with a particular crime, either a family member or someone close to them and personal feeling toward the offender. Yet, judges still have human tendencies but have to abide by some guidelines to determine their sentencing.…
This paper is written in an attempt to comprehend the sentencing philosophy and purpose of criminal punishment through a review of the historical parameters concerning how sentencing and punishment serve society. Sentencing is the application of justice and the end result of a criminal conviction which is applied by the convening authority; followed by the sentence, or judgement of the court on a convicted offender. What makes punishment unique to our society is the application of our moral or ethical beliefs as a whole, and by the population at large. Throughout history, the sentencing and administration of punishments have been swift, brutal and often times ending with the death of the offender, but in our more civilized and modern society,…
New concepts of justice are one of the settings that give rise to law reform. Society evolves over time and its views on justice alter for a variety of reasons. In the past, capital punishment for particular murder offences was seen as the most effective way of dealing with the most monstrous crimes. It was a case of society delivering pure retribution for a crime: ‘a life for a life’. As a result, social attitudes with respect to capital punishment shifted and no Australian jurisdiction now permits it. Capital punishment no longer served community’s purposes. This is conveyed in the Bilal Skaf law. In his case two people from the jury investigated the crime scene, this is strictly against the law, which led the case to start all over again. However a new law was introduced and electronic transcript that was used for their previous case was allowed to be used. Thus, the effectiveness of law reform in attaining impartial outcomes with regard to current law reform cases has been confirmed in this case.…
Punishment is our current most exercised consequence for bringing justice to those victims of criminals by incarcerating offenders in a jail or prison, as well as other forms such as the community service, probation, and even the death penalty. While jail and/or prison life is necessary to protect the public by confining criminals away from public harm, I believe that “only” punishing dangerous criminals is simply not enough.…
In the year of 2017, we are living in a time were we can communicate on many different platforms (Television, Online, Radio, Podcast, etc.) more than ever had before. The age where people can focus on the words that offend the few and not the masses that gets ingored. As well the age where individuals can easily express their views, whether is it a popular opinion or not. Which is within every American citizen first amendment rights; But what’s the limit when hate speech turns into a hate crime? the three examples I am using are come from the last five years.…
People reflect on times in high school, in college, or at a workplace when another student or co-worker said or wrote something just for the apparent purpose of insulting, hurting, frightening, silencing, or banning that someone. If that person has not personally experienced this kind of hateful speech, perhaps hearing it directed at others. Particularly of any hateful speech that was aimed to that person because his gender is being a man or woman, a member of some religious, ethnic, or racial group, gay or lesbian, or somehow outside the norms for dress, interests, body type, or language use.…
Punishment is defined as the infliction of a penalty for an offense. The novel Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky took place in St. Petersburg, Russia, mid 1860s. The main character, Raskolnikov, committed the murder of a pawn broker and her sister which he became ill with guilt. He is accused as the murderer but denied it until the end where he eventually confessed and was sent to Siberia. In the novel, Raskolnikov had an unbearable amount of guilt, faced punishment by imprisonment, and gave his heart to God for forgiveness. Conflicts he was put through helped illuminate the meaning of the novel: For all crimes, there will be punishment.…
Punishment:When a crime is committed many may wonder why it happened, but most everyone believes that the person that committed the crime should be punished.
