1. When Jean and Julien first meet, Julien threatens Jean to stay away from him. Jean was shy when he first arrived, and he was afraid to really talk to people. As the story goes on, Julien got more and more curious about whom jean Bonnet really was; so he started to talk to him by just saying a sentence or two to hi every now and then. They really started to develop their friendship when they got lost in the woods together while playing a “boy scout” game, and they get “arrested” by a couple of Nazi soldiers. When Julien invites Jean to eat lunch with him and his family, Jean really started to trust him more, and began opening up to him; thus starting a great friendship.…
The life of people during the Great Depression was poverty stricken, jobless, and too many it was hopeless. Life during this time was portrayed very well in the movie “Cinderella Man.” James Braddock is a perfect example of life during this time. He was as poor as the movie displayed him to be and he did have to go receive relief money from the government to heat his house and keep his children. “His Irish-Catholic back round played a major role in the values he held onto, specifically the one of family.” He repaid the relief money as soon as he was able to afford to, in both the movie and real life. James Braddock also fought and worked with a broken hand, just like the movie displayed. “Jim gets an out-of-the-blue, last ditch shot to fight in Madison Square Garden- and more importantly, a chance to put food on the table for those he loves. (The Movie 1)” The two days notice about the fight Braddock received in the movie was accurate to reality. James went back into fighting to feed and keep his family together.…
Compared to people in the twenty-first century, with all their modern conveniences and technological advances, the life of any early-American seems difficult. However, the lives of children were among the most arduous. Linda Pollock states in her book Forgotten Children that between 1660 and 1800 families -and society in general- became more affectionate, child-oriented, and permissive of uniqueness and unstructured time (67). Although this may be true, many other sources depict the lives of children as taxing and oppressive at best. Children of the time were either forced to abandon education for their family contributions, or had to balance school with a full day's work ("Education"). Even when they were not in school or doing manual labor, their day-to-day lives were uncomfortable and harsh (Kids). Social status, as is expected, was a key factor in determining how hard a child's life would be (Murray 9). Although many children at the time had it easier than others they were all asked at an early age to take on adult responsibilities. The lives of all children in 1800 were mundane and difficult due to family and societal expectations for labor, schooling, and maturity.…
The policies help to safeguard children because the setting may have a policy that says that the children within their care cannot be collected by any person they are not familiar with unless the child's parent/guardien has given written consent saying who the person is and why they are picking the child up from the setting, this helps to safeguard children because it keeps the children safe from harm and prevents confidentiality being breached because if someone who wasn't the child's parent/guardian came to take the child from the setting and asked for any information about the child, without the consent from a parent/guardian they could then pass the information on the someone who isn't allowed to know anything about the child which could then put the child, setting or the family in danger.…
One of the many injustices in Maycomb County is racial injustice, more specifically the injustices towards African-Americans. For example, the townspeople of Maycomb they have such a hate towards African-American people, for example the use of the word nigger. It is a word that the “common people” meaning the people who had no deference for them. Which leads to segregation, of churches, schools, and the courtroom where Tom Robinson's trial is held. “The Colored balcony ran along three walls of the courtroom like a second -story veranda, and from it we could see everything.”(219). Due to the racism, and prejudice the African-American people are only allowed to sit in one area of the courtroom, their own. This could be compared to the Holocaust, the Nazi's could be compared to the ignorant people of Maycomb, and the Jews are the African-American people who are subjected to the hatred and bigotry of the racist's in Maycomb. It may only seem that the white people are racist towards the blacks, but the blacks are also racist towards the whites. For example, when Jem and Scout go to church with Calpurnia. “When Lula came up the pathway toward us Calpurnia said,'Stop right there, nigger.' Lula stopped, but she said, 'You ain't got no business bringin' white chillun here-they got their church,we got our'n. It is our church, ain't it, Miss Cal?' Calpurnia said,'It's the same God, ain't it?' Jem said 'Let's go home, Cal, they don't want us here-' ”(158) As one may see there is hostility on both sides, white and black. This hostility is like the fighting between dogs and cats, some of them get along but some are always fighting, but they will never win.…
“Want-Creation Fuels Americans’ Addictiveness” is a confusing title as much as the essay belonging to it. In the essay, which initially appeared in the St. Paul Pioneer Press Dispatch, Author Philip Slater poorly emphasizes that American society has contributed and amplified Americans’ addiction behavior. The article is initially engaging to a reader, however, the transitions between topics can lose the reader’s interest because of the ambiguity. Slater also brings good points for the reader to consider but he fails to correlate them together in a manner that could easily identifiable. Slater is also unclear as to the intention of his argument by his manner of bringing up irrelevant issues that are present in American society. Ultimately, the poor organization and Slater’s inability to show the relationship between the examples given make this essay difficult to read and difficult to comprehend the purpose for which it was written for.…

The first and biggest problem in today’s children is that they are getting spoiled beyond belief. When kids are spoiled the way they are being spoiled today it sets them up to fail in their future lives. Brenda Scottsdale a licensed psychologist and author for livestrong.com states, “Spoiling your children can be harmful to them both socially and developmentally. Since children who are spoiled often do not have to learn to solve their own problems, they can lack the life skills necessary to successfully negotiate the demands of adulthood.” When it comes time for these children to manage their money and make financial decisions in their own life they will struggle and rely on their parents to bail them out as they have done repeatedly in the past. In their adult years, lacking these skills makes these people lazy, angry, and unhappy with themselves. The second root cause in poorly acting children today is being neglected or lacking a positive role model at home. In the case of slavery, I believe both black and white people have been handed down, through the generations, afflictions that we now must come to understand and deal with.
