In the medical field, new developments and techniques are discovered and improved everyday. The medical field has always brought together the brightest and best of society to help those in need along with making and using the tools provided to help patients. Diagnostic medical sonography is one of the many advanced technological tools that is used today to help capture live images of the inside of the body, seek out problems, and diagnose patients. Seeing that this modern technology is used often today, there are various job opportunities for this area of study, a very intricate way of how it works along with what is studied, and there are multiple ways as…
Ultrasonography, commonly called sonography, is a diagnostic medical procedure that uses high frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to produce dynamic visual images of organs, tissues, or blood flow inside the body. This type of procedure is often referred to as a sonogram or ultrasound scan. Sonography can be used to examine many parts of the body, such as the abdomen, breasts, female reproductive system, prostate, heart, and blood vessels. Sonography is increasingly being used in the detection and treatment of heart disease, heart attack, and vascular disease that can lead to stroke. It is also used to guide fine needle, tissue biopsy to assist in taking a sample of cells from an organ for lab testing (for example, a test for cancer in breast tissue). Unlike X-rays, sonography is a…

Yes, she believes this field is growing and expanding. She believes this is happening because there are many specialties of ultrasound, and because good sonographers are in high demand. 9. Is this a secure field?…
The economic situation in the United States has led to many American workers considering the benefits of pursuing a two year, career-oriented education instead of the traditional four year bachelor’s degree. There are many associate’s degree programs that offer a quality education in flourishing and relatively high paying fields. One of these is Medical Sonography. Medical Sonography has enormous growth potential, and offers someone the ability to work in the medical field in a rewarding career. It is also a less competitive program than some of the other health sciences fields offered at the associate’s degree level, such as nursing or physical therapy assistant. Because of the less stringent admissions guidelines and a comparable earning potential, Medical Sonography is an exceptional choice for many people looking to further their careers in a limited amount of time.…
Sonography is the use of sound waves to generate an image for the diagnosis of medical conditions. Sonography is rapidly growing due to the harmful effects of x-rays and such. The most common use of sonography is associated with pregnancy, but can be used for many other things throughout the body. There are many different types of diagnostic medical sonographers, including but not limited to, obsteric sonography, abdominal sonography, neurosonography, or breast sonography.…
Medical imaging, especially X-ray based examinations and ultrasonography, is crucial in every medical setting and at all levels of heath care. In public health and preventive medicine as well as in curative medicine, effective decisions depend on correct diagnosis. Though medical/clinical judgment maybe sufficient in treatment of many conditions, the use of diagnostic imaging services is paramount in confirming, correctly assessing and documenting course of the disease as well as in assessing response to treatment.…
As it evolves it will be used instead of exams that are invasive and expensive. To Health insurance companies support the use of ultrasound rather than other procedures that involve radiation (Diagnostic). Diagnostic medical sonography is expected to “see significant growth over the coming years,” according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (5). Employment is expected to rise 43.5 percent from 2012 to 2020 (Five). More growth in sonography is going to stem from the effects of the Affordable Care Act due to changes to healthcare requirements during pregnancy requiring a greater use of ultrasound. A great reason to become a sonographer is because of changes to the healthcare industry (Five). Ultrasounds are much cheaper in comparison to similar…
According to Makely, Badasch, & Chesebro (2014), “They use diagnostic ultrasound to transmit sound waves at high frequencies into the patient’s body. Images are seen on a screen and also records on a strip of video” (p. 39). Many people relate Sonographers with pregnancies, because it is how a fetus can be seen during pregnancy. Being able to show a mother their unborn baby is such a breath taking experience. Medical sonographers work in clinics, hospitals or in a OBGYN office. Sonographers most of the time work on weekdays but must stay available to come in to work. To become a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you need to have a high school diploma or equivalent, graduate from an accredited sonography program, have passed the ARDMS which is the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. The Annual Salary is from $53,300-63,600 (p.76). Although this is my dream career it also has its disadvantages like for example not being able to get into the sonography program due to it being a limited access program. Medical Sonographers deal with lots of emotions, and I’m not so sure I have the heart to tell a soon to be mother, that I hear no heartbeat, or that something is wrong with their…

The sonogram equipment uses sound waves to create an image of the tissues inside the body. The sonogram technician administers ultrasounds to help physicians diagnose and screen medical conditions (1). There are many uses for an ultrasound some including: pregnancy, diagnostics, use in medical procedures, and therapeutic applications. Sonograms use high frequency sound waves in order to capture pictures in real life moments. As a result of this you can see a baby move, see your organs move, and see the blood flow of all organs, and the blood flowing to your baby. As a ultrasound technician you will use what is known as a probe, and some gel to conduct the ultrasound. The probe is what is placed onto the skin, and the gel-sometimes warms, and sometimes cold- are place onto the area that needs to be looked at. The ultrasound is based of the waves bouncing off of the body’s structures to produce an image, which is then projected onto a screen and printed off and giving either to you or your…
The ultrasound is to detect any blockage of arteries, veins, or a heart. While viewing the sonogram the technician can assist the attending physician. The ultrasound can reveal damage from a previous heart attack, or problems like the heart pumping to hard or too weak. This can also reveal if the patient needs surgery.…
While interviewing Dr. Nowak, an ultrasound technician, I gathered a lot of information useful in choosing a career. Dr. Nowak explained to me many aspects of being an ultrasound technician. During this interview I have learned that you to take a least 4 years of college. I learned what ultrasound technician do and the ultrasound technician scans pregnant women’s and also they scan other parts of your body’s. It is not hard to find a job and…
Radiologists are the people that examine x-rays, CT scans, mammograms, ultrasounds, and MRI scans. Sometimes some of them operate the machinery used to collect those images. They also use their findings to diagnose illnesses and treat their patients with the medical radiation. They normally work at least 40 hours a week; it depends on the size of the group…
In health and social care it is important that if it is found by research that any factors of health and care can be improved then it is. Researchers found that children are more vulnerable to radiation, which can increase the odds of them developing cancer later in life and therefore came up the idea for ultrasound scans to be used on children, rather than CT scans where they are exposed to unnecessary radiation. The researchers carried out a trial on 44 children with chronic liver problems, the test was able to accurately diagnose patients. Therefore, this research improved practice and prevents children from being exposed to dangerous rays.…
