Blood Lust People enjoy violence because it gives them an escape. Since the beginning of time people have had to fend for themselves, whether it was fighting off dinosaurs or roaming people. We as people are genetically driven to hate, kill and attack. With the recent televising of violent assaults/actions, our genes allow the human race to enjoy watching. These effects added to the recurring amount of violence causes it to be normalized.…
In reading “Violent Media is Good for Kids”; by Gerard Jones, he doesn’t argue against the fact that some harm has come from violence in the media. However the author does convey the fact that he has first handedly seen the positive effects of well managed use of violence in different mediums. Mr. Jones has reinforced my view and opinion on violence in the media by informing me to the efforts of him and his colleague to help children use their natural feelings in a positive manner and find an enlightening outlet.…
In “Violent Media is Good for Kids,” the author Gerard Jones claims that violent media is good for children because it prepares them for violence in reality and teaches them how to control with rage. He argues against people’s view of violent media being negative influence on children. This view suggests that it is important to keep children away from violent media because it promotes imaginary gun battles, killing, blood, and violent fighting. In response, the author argues that such violence in media can give children a tool to master their rage.…
The Mass Media today is the main reason why our culture is so violence driven. First I am going to start off on the news media and movies that are being viewed by our children and young adults. The news media always seems to project negative things. You rarely hear anything about a city not having an violent acts being placed over the news. Instead you turn the news on and your going to see how a father came home and found his wife cheating on him so he beat her to death, then killed all his children before turning his gun on…
Violence affects many different people in many different ways. Some people find it easier to contain their emotions and keep it personal where as others like to let it all out in the open. For instance, Dallas Winston gets a thrill out of violence and is always stating “Don’t you know a rumble ain’t a rumble unless I’m in it?” (Dallas p.175) When Ponyboy sees no point in all the fighting and questions “Why do I fight? [He] thought, and couldn’t think of any real good reason. There isn’t any real good reason for fighting except self-defence.” (Ponyboy p.166) Violence has many various affects that can cause good or bad outcomes, depending on the person.…
Violence has been taught since childhood, everywhere people go, everywhere people look, violence is surrounding us in daily life. Throughout the years violence has become a dangerous trend. People use violence everyday as a sense of protection and even because it seems like the thing to do. Violence is so widespread it has become normal, and society is slowly becoming numb to the idea that violence is making our world worse. Many innocent people are being killed and questions are not being asked as well as the right actions are not being taken for the people using violence illogically. When reports come in saying someone was murdered there is always an excuse for a criminal’s actions. Usually the person is mentally ill, had a rough childhood, or saw things as a child that made them use violence. Whether a person is in their right mind or not, violence is not acceptable. Violence is unsafe for our world and makes society live in fear because they worry about the possibility of dying each day. Living in a world where a culture of violence is accepted as the norm will always bring fear to the world. This violence makes us feel like the end is near, and as time goes on it will bring about an apocalypse.…
There is are two opposite sides arguing against and for " violence in entertainment". The side which is " for " are the marketers who promote media with violence involved. Consumers enjoy violent forms of entertainment which allows businesses to ascend. Research proves that violence is something expected and desired by the consumers, which allows companies to make more profit. The side that is "against," argue that violence corrupts the society because it allows the promotion of violence. Research also proves that media incorporated with violence is associated with aggressive behavior found in children and young adults, aggressive behaviors such as lack of remorse for the consequences, violence against others, show signs of hostility, decreased emotional responses to violence and injury are the reasons why violence in media is arguing against.…
Revenge, according to the online Oxford dictionary, is “the action of hurting or harming someone in return for an injury or wrong suffered at their hands.” To me, this is essentially what Robin Wood means when he talks about “the return of the repressed.” In horror films, the things we try to repress in society, like female sexuality and social outcasts, end up being the things that return seeking revenge on their suppressers. That is why it can be said that the repressed return in horror movies. However, this can also be said about other movies as well and doesn’t only apply to horror movies. Thrillers, actions, even comedies, can have revengeful characters and themes, which is why Wood specifically states that there is a “basic formula for…
In “Violent Media is Good for Kids,” Gerard Jones conveys that violent media is good for young children. Jones also states in the article that children can overcome their inner rage and gain confidence to fight against the modern society by using violent media.…
Many of today’s television shows would be taken off the air if there wasn’t some sort of violence on them. Take the show “Grey’s Anatomy” for example, they don’t always show you how their patients become injured but they always show you the victims at their worst times. In the show “Criminal Mind’s” They never show the killer actually killing the victim, because that would ruin the whole show, but they always show the crime scene when it is first discovered. Meaning, that there are dead bodies and lots of blood everywhere. The point is violence is one of the many things that human beings think is exciting, and usually when we conceive something as being exciting we try to either watch or carry out that act as much as possible.…
I read in a news article the other day that the legislature is considering to pass a law to where we wouldn’t be able to watch any violent movies from the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. What is the legislature really thinking, that is all day, 5 am to 10 pm. Okay the legislature decides to take all violent movies away from us. I can gurantee you that somehow someway, someone somewhere will find a way to watch them no matter what. We have the right to speak up if we don’t agree, I mean we do have the Freedom of Speech. But these days who knows, because it seems like if we speak up about things we get shunned for it, or there is no reason. Honestly, I feel like it’s a bad idea, it’s like what else do they want to take away from us.…
Since I am not a fan of viewing blood, and the violent actions that causes it; I…

Violence has been an immense variable in our society, regardless of what era our childhood occurred in. Violence is all over the place and it consistently has been in every generation. Constantly people find out about violence, whether it is in their neighborhood, on their televisions or even just in their local news. Regardless of the fact that if you are not a violent individual and you live in a sheltered and secure group, you are still not sheltered from violent actions. The alarming issue about violence is that everybody has the possibility to commit these violent actions. Regardless of how defensive a mother is, her kid will, ultimately, have to experience our vicious world sooner or later in their lives. Despite the fact that we live…
